Have my precious Weezy and Baby allard clown fish found out today that the nitrate and phoshate are at a dangerous level today after the second water test in a week. Really hopin they tough it out and make it I'd be upset if they didn't. Pootchy lip!!! :-(

Well, it is good that you would be upset as most of us here are advocates of above average husbandry. If you don't have sustainable parameters, I would suggest getting someone to hold the fish for you while your tank cycles. Have you measured for ammonia and nitrite?

Well the water was tested on sunday and was told that the tank was ready for clean up crew and fish so we got a clean up crew snails, hermit crabs, a cleaner shrimp, emrald crab, and two allard clown fish. Tested the water today and come to find out the tank was NOT ready for all that. Even though the water was tested right in front of us and we saw our self no ammonia and nitrate but now its not the case. Crossing our fingers and letting tank cycle without touching any thing on it. Watching fish for any changes. Shrimp fish and crab are all still eating still though. Wish me luck.

How high are your nitrates and phosphates? Watch the ammonia. That'll take out your fish real quick if not caught in time. I lost a whole lot of fish in a qt because I hadn't realized that I had an ammonia spike.

+1 NOOK, maybe the LFS that sold the pair to you or maybe a local reefer could keep them for you until it finishes cycling. No need to have them suffer. JMTCW.

I would be more concerned about the nitrites at this point.did they test those?way more harmful to fish and inverts than nitrates.

Nitrites Are high off the chart on a salifert test dark purple. .25 ppm on amonia. Sg is a little low to .18 but was told not to adjust anything for a week.

I would dump some amequil if you're not going to do a water change. It'll kill your fish if you don't.

I agree with tater. They would be better off in a gold fish bowl and water from the fish store than in a tank full of nitrites.:crazy1:

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm pretty confident that Weezy and Baby will pull through they are though little things they "just keep swimming" no red spots that indicate ammonia burn or anything not acting funny still eating along with the shrimp and crab I have hope if I thought that they weren't gonna make it or were suffering they wouldn't be in the tank but the little guys look happy as clams still just keeping them monitored at all times

With high nitrite your fish are doomed. Please take them to the store or another hobbyist friend and let that tank cycle. I would also suggest reading the stickies in the New to the Hobby Forum before buying ANY more livestock. Not trying to sound like a jerk, but you guys are in way over your heads at present.

I had a reef tank before. The rock was tranfered from that tank. So when the water was tested at the store and was tokd it was ok. I just topped off the tank with salt ro/di wayer to bring up sg. Added some prime to turn the amonia into the non toxic amonium yes i did my research. Clowns ate good, shrimp ate. Just gonna wait it out.

Sounds like you got it all figured out and don't need our help. Let us know the outcome. I'm sure if you change your mind and heed the advice of EVERYONE in this thread, the LFS or someone nearby could hold the fish for you. Good Luck! (I do honestly mean that)

No disrespect nanook, but wouldn't you think that when your water is tested and you are TOLD and URGED into buying a clean up crew and fish that it would be ok to do so? Because that is exactly what happened. Its not a matter of being inexperienced or "over our heads" like previously stated research has been done and we are doing EVERYTHING to fix this. What would have happened if we wouldn't have tested the water just as soon as we did? It could have been a bigger problem than it is now. So I don't think that this is a matter of being inexperienced or over our heads other circumstances had a hand in this as well.

Was the rock out of the old tank for a long time? Or was it transferred right into this tank?

The fact that your fish are "happy as clams" and "eating" doesn't mean they are going to live. Once you found out your nitrites were off the chart and you were registering ammonia levels, the next logical thing would be to take all of the livestock out as soon as possible back to a store or to a friend so they don't die. You guys come across like teenagers that know it all, good luck.

Rhonda,

I don't think Nook or anyone else is blaming you for adding fish after the LFS gave you a green light of your water parameters. Personally, I prefer to do all my own testing for confidence and convenience and I believe it to be an essential skill for anyone in the hobby. However, I can understand if someone new to the hobby leaves that duty to the LFS. I think what everyone is confused by is why you would want to leave your fish in that same water after it was determined that the testing was invalid and the current environment your fish are living in is toxic to them??? FWIW
