I never thought my LFS would carry a Yasha Goby, he's never had them in all the time I've been going there!

Needless to say I felt I couldn't pass him up for the $40 price tag, I'd be kicking myself for weeks lol.

It's been acclimated to a new home and currently hiding from the paparazzi :p

Haha yea he was strutting his stuff during the acclimation but as soon as I released him he has gone into hiding! The paparazzi are not pleased! :spin2:

Is that a "must" Norvich in terms of this goby thriving?

tbh I'm not crazy about shrimp or hermit crabs in my 35g, I just don't trust 'em! But, I'd be happy to put 1 in if it meant better health & happiness for him/her.

Question: how do you differentiate sex in a goby?

No, this goby does not need a shrimp to survive.

I had one for over five years once. Just be careful, they're JUMPERS, as with any goby.

Great looking fish!

Thanks for the reply laddy :fun4:

Yes, I have read many a story about these guys jumping! I do have a glass cover on my tank and there is only a small space where it's open, hope he doesn't feel the need to exploit it!

Cover that small spot. If there is ANY space they can fit, you will find them on the floor.

I agree, they WILL jump. In any case, I would definitely give him/her a pistol shrimp in order to create a home. The gobies cannot dig and the interaction is fascinating. Surviving is one thing, thriving is another. It will also help keep it from jumping.

Will do on the covering.

As for the shrimp, is it a threat to any corals, other fish or inverts?

I have a pair of clowns and a variety of snails but I don't want a shrimp to hinder any future purchase I might make.

All I have planned in the near future is the addition of a dwarf Flame Angel and a few corals down the line if that helps any.

A pistol shrimp will not effect anything else in the tank. They live in the burrow with the goby. The goby provides protection for the shrimp as they are essentially blind, in return the shrimp builds and maintains the burrow.

Thanks for the reply lobster :reading:

That's pretty interesting. What will the shrimp use as it's burrow - the sand bed or LR?

I have 15lbs LR and approx 2inch sand bed currently. Will the shrimp be digging under the rock or cause any to fall over?

Thx for your time :spin1:
