I was in there last week and see a note posted on the door about selling the business for interested parties.

Shelves look thin and salt stock look terrible.

Bottle of 16oz purple up for $24.95!!! A little pricey considering I can go up toe Coral Reefs and get it for $18.00

BTW, I hear Coral Reef is supposed to be expanding sometime in the future...hopefully like they used to be years ago when you could get some cool saltwater critters!

My g/f was there the other day, and said that they are selling all the large coral colonies out of their display reef.

I believe the list included:

Montipora
Frogspawn
Hammer
Bubble Coral

It's a shame really. There's no arguing that their dry goods were overpriced, but I still found their livestock prices reasonable, and liked having a place close if I ever found myself needing a quick purchase. Not to mention John was a great guy.

I wonder if it had something to do with the Petco in Belden Village expanding their Saltwater dry goods section?

Petco in Beldon has been gone for about a year. I've known John for a long time. The Freshwater hobby has been in a decline for years and that is where there passion is/was. Couple that with online sales and it is hard to make a buck in this business. They had a flood about a year of two ago that wiped out about $30K in inventory and equipment. They were redoing sewer lines a half a mile away and all the storm water backed up and filled their business and others because they are in the lowest spot in the area. Unfortunately, there is no recourse. All that conbined has taken it's toll.

Petsmart then... :rolleye1:

Word was when Pet Co closed that they may be opening up at the Strip in the near future...don't know if this is going to happen. I got to know good people there and they seemed to have a decent salt water stock, in fact I still have corals from that store that are doing great!!

As for Wet Pets, I remeber when they use to get some killer stuff in there a few years ago but the hobby seems to have had its ups and downs in Canton..

I will be heading there today to see what is on sale or if anything I can pick up. I am also going up to Coral Reefs this weekend.

Anyone been in the new Sea Cave (aquatic interiors) 364 West Exchange in Akron? I stopped by one day but they didn't really have much. Does this store have good stock and a variety?

Not much in terms of dry goods or even livestock at Sea cave. Was there last week and saw they had korilia for sale (high price), thought it was funny since last year I was told by them that they were junk and hydor was a unknown company to buy their $35 Maxi jet 1200 instead.
Just sad to see another store close down dry good were high but still nice to check out. I remember when they were in Mogadore wetpets had an unbeatable selection.

Ya, Ive know John for some years. Super guy! has always had a nice selection of freshwater items. sorry to see him go. Derrick and joan "Coral Reefs" have always been super people also. Looks like business might pick up for them.

I was just up there, and they're basically selling everything inside the 4 walls.

It looked like the markdown was 20% on most of the stuff.

Most of the large coral colonies were spoken for, but they still have a very large dark green montipora colony, and 2 medium to large size orange montiporas.

Also they are selling all the livestock holding tanks... right now they have the 125's marked at $225.

stopped in there the other day, sign by the street said "check out new changes" and the storewide liquidation seemed to have stopped. i asked john if he was staying around now, and he said he found a buyer. sounds like the new owner wants to expand the saltwater section. kind of excited to see some changes. hopefully it is all for the better

Was just there today. Jon said the buyer's son-in-law is a saltwater hobbyist so hopefully that's a good sign.

I'm glad they'll be staying open... Even though they can be a bit pricey, it's nice having a place nearby.

saltwater hobby must be picking up or something. Coral reef is expanding again, and also pet connection in kent ohio is expanding. I went in there about a week ago and spoke to the owner, he said he is going to have a whole lot of saltwater stuff in the next few months. Said he was even going to set up a shark tank for show.

Stan who worked there told me that the owner is clueless to this hobby. That does not bode well if you own a business you have no clue about. Hopefully the son-in- law will help out

Its in the shopping center at the corner of Fishcreek and graham rd. Right behind the ice cream shop (forgot the name). Don't really know if the owner knows what hes doing because all the times that I have been there. Most of his saltwater fishes seem to be dying, especially his anemone. But he is redoing the whole saltwater setup so I am hoping for the best. Said he is going to have some frag tanks up also selling for around 5-15 per frag, which will definitely be a plus.

I talked to Wet Pets Plus today (09-03-08) and they have sold the store and the new owner will be restocking soon.
