What am I?

I've had this anemone for a little over 4 years and recently got questioned on what it is. It's grown a lot since I got it, eats very well (2 medium sized shrimp once a week) and does not bother anything in the tank.

Here is the pic

Any ideas?

The common name is Flower Anemone. Here's a photo I took in the P.I. showing the anemone and a symbiotic shrimp:

I don't think that it is a flower anemone. It lives in the sand and, when open fully, is over 12 inches. Someone once said that it may be a fire anemone but it's sting does not bother me at all.

That is a great picture James! I love seeing hosting shrimp.

Probably Actinodendron plumosum.

Actinodendron glomeratum has a little more bulb-like endings on its tentacles.

If you want to look at fire anemones, here is an inclusive list (9 species currently):
Actinia arboreum
Actinia alcyonidium
Acremodactyla ambonense
Actinodendron plumosum
Actinodendron glomeratum
Actinodendron hansingorum
Actinostephanus haeckeli
Megalactis hemprichii
Megalactis griffithsii

Of the group Actinodendronidae.

I don't know much about them, frankly. Perhaps only some of the species have really strong stings?

Wait until you have a cut and then touch it. We'll see how you do then :) LOL (don't really try this you'll regret it)

Wow, that's something I've never seen before. It's beautiful! Where did you find yours?

I found it on some obscure online store right after Katrina and didn't have anything in the tank. Once it proved to me that it would not hurt small fish, I moved it to my 240.

Shoot.. I was going to ask my husband to touch it this weekend... darn. now I have to find another way to torture him. ROFL

Wow! Don't do it or who will help you with your water changes?
