What are the best gloves for working in the tank?

Just want to get people's feed back on the different gloves out there for working in the tank..... It is very important that they hold up well and DON'T let water in... I have to let my husband take over the tanks for awhile and he is SEVERLY allergic to iodine. Thanks
 
I have not had as good luck with those gloves, 2 pairs have eventually leaked at the seam between the orange and blue parts.
 
Forget trying to do any "delicate" work with those gloves either, especially if you have small hands. They're huge on me and whenever I wore them, I could barely hold onto anything.
 
I have a pair of those and like the others, I really only use them for moving big things like rocks - very little dexterity with them. I must admit to almost always going "nekkid" when I go into the tank :eek1:
 
I also use the gloves sold at Dr. Foster's in the link above. Terrible gloves for moving frags as they don't give you a lot of dexterity. However, as mentioned earlier, they're okay if you want to move big rocks. They're also good when you want to clean coraline off of your glass. A definite must if you have a history of getting skin reactions to frogspawn. My frogspawn has given me nasty hives on my forearm before getting my gloves. Now, anytime I go near my frogspawn, I make sure to strap them on.
 
I also use those Purple and Orange gloves. They are good if you are moving around live rock and stuff like that. If you are looking to do stuff where you can actually use your fingers, use smaller gloves. I use disposables for quick stuff. I then use the typical yellow gloves you see in the supermarket as a middle glove that can take some work, and let me use my fingers.
 
For those that have the "purple/orange" gloves (and they leak) I have them too. Just turn them inside out up to the seam part. Apply clear silicone glue over the entire "inside" seam. Let dry for 24hrs. They won't leak again. I had to do this on mine a couple of years ago; still no leaks.

As far as other types of gloves. There are thin gloves (clear plastic), that are about 30" long. I've used them several times when visiting the west coast. Not sure who makes these gloves, but they work great. Next time I'm talking with the sales rep. I'll ask where they get them. In the mean time, now that I have told you what to look for, maybe some will find a supply for you.

In fact, I think I saw them in my farm (cattle, sheep, pig) catalog. I have since thrown it away; when I get my next month's copy I'll take a look for them. The gloves I think are the one used to deliver calfs. Check with Agway in the mean time.
 
You are right - veterinarians have disposable gloves that go right to the shoulder - for those larger animals. You may be able to find them at a farm supply store
 
Thanks everyone! I myself do have those gloves which leak bad, lol, but I really like the silicone idea. My husband is anaphylactic with iodine so really thinking keeping him out of the tank like it has been is best.... Guess I just have some decisions to make. Thanks for everyone's contribution to this thread :rollface:
 
Yep. That's the ones I use in Cali. I knew someone would find a place to get them.

When I use them in Cali, I'm just picking up corals and anemones and placing them in a tub. What I do here (for fragging and whatever) is I put on the short surgical gloves, then place the long ones over them. This way I keep the sharp objects from getting to my skin ... and I use the longer ones to keep my arms dry .... don't want to get the sleeves of my 3 pieces suit wet.
