Hi, usually hang-out at nanoreef.com but needed a little anemone information so thought I would look over here with all of you!!! I may have made a mistake in putting this guy in my small (10 gal)nano.....oh well, looks like I'll have to set up a larger tank (my wife is gonna kill me!!!!). Tell me this, why does my carpet go under the rocks when the light (80 watt Orbit fixture) kicks on? All you guys run MH so I'm sure it's not due to extreme lighting? He comes back out as the day goes on and opens-up really nice at night under the moonlight LED's.

"I may have made a mistake in putting this guy in my small (10 gal)nano"
Mine can expand to about an 18" or so diameter-better plan on upgrading.
What kind of light is an 80 watt orbit? PC? It looks like it may be bleached but I cant really tell-too many odd colors of carpets around now!

Orbit lights are made by Current USA. Mine has 1- 20 watt 6,700k/10,000k bulb and 1-20 watt 420nm/460nm bulb. What does "bleached" mean? Color loss? This one looked this way when I got him. It was the only one they had at my LFS. (Impulse buy) : ) Hope he doesn't grow to fast (if I can keep him alive).

Bleached is when they lose their zooanthellae. Is it taking food?
Your lights are Power Compacts-generally Carpets need Metal Halides to do well. If you really want to keep it I would look into a larger tank and MH lighting. They do grow fast when healthy.

Yes, I have fed it frozen brine shrimp twice this week. It is a little slow to close up on it. Is this normal? Also why would it go under the rocks when my light comes on? So little information on the internet on these guys. Glad to have experienced reefers at my fingertips though. What do you feed yours? And how crazy can my water parameters get before it causes him stress? Sorry for all the questions but, LFS where I bought it isn't that good. They would tell you anything you want to hear if they think they can make a sale out of you.

I was wondering what all natural colors are the S. Haddoni . I know I have seen the Green, Blue and Red, but are there other colors? I say one website that claimed to have a Violet Haddoni, but of course no picks of any of the anemones are posted on the site. I would be interesting in seeing if the Haddoni come in like purple or something like that. I am really looking at getting a Haddoni in the next two weeks or so. I am planning on a Blue but if there are other natural color morphs the Haddoni come in I would be interesting in finding one.

Slimreb, cquarium had a couple of violet haddoni's. Go to the site and check them out. They are sold of course, only $450.

The Gigantea in its new spot at the top of my reef. I still don't know if its going to make it but I am doing everything I can.

RIP

I lost it about week ago. It started moving around the left side of my reef. I had to stay on my toes as it moved around, keeping corals out of harms way. The left side of my reef is now void of any coral. It pretty much touched on every surface and either killed what was there or forced me to move it.

I will take a break from anemones for a while. I am going to get my corals re-established on the left side while reserving a spot at the very top of my reef for a Magnifica. The reserved spot will stay empty for at least a few months before I start looking locally for a Mag.

Hopefully I can find one like this one again.

LIAR!!! You won't take a break, you're an anemone freak and you know it. You love anemones, you love anemones!!! LOL:D

Just thought I would taunt you a little.

And by the way, no fair copying my intrests in the bio area!!

Very sorry to hear that too. :(

Perhaps I can cheer you up with a picture of this little guy I picked up last week?

It is just the cutest little carpet at about 6" in diameter.

I have some other pictures with some closer-in views but I haven't yet uploaded them to the web yet. Perhaps later, that is if anyone's interested to see them.
