What Color is Your Carpet? {pics please}

hummm i think that i will just upgrade my tank..to about 1000g'S....when there is no more room..hehe.
i dont even think that there is a public aquarium around here..maybe in toronto 2 hours away! so that free one years pass would be a waste.
thanks for all the info!

I bought a carpet at my local LFS. It's a dull emarald green one, shown partially in this pic. If you look close enough you will see a tentacle or 2 that is that super neon green that we all like. Recently I have noticed more of those neon green tentacles popping up & there are maybe 12 or more now.

I am just wondering is it possible for all or most of my carpet to turn to this desired color? What is best to feed it to achieve this (something high in protein)? It's genetics that determine it's color, but conditions can alter it's appearance, right?

pictures about 30 minutes after acclimation. not quite sure what to think of the condition of it. mouth has that big opening but the flesh inside is closed and tight.

it's kept the same shape since i saw it in the LFS which is the flat/pancake look.

body will vibrate with the current but reminds me of a waterbed. I am assuming i should see it shrivel up tonight when it expels whatever is inside to purge itself.

btw..i know it's in a tank too crowded right now but it's plumbed into my 110gallon tank. only place i could put it right now until i find a better spot in my 110gallon.

if anyone can offer any insights that would be great.....

It needs water flow over it gental water flow. Is it sticky to the touch? Do you see the tentacles moving at all?try feed it a very small peice of krill or shrip and I mean small just to see how it will react. I hope it makes it but it does not look to good needs a lot of love. try and keep clowns away form it for now they may be to harsh on it. post some new pictures

The red morph of S. haddoni is tough. I have tried several under many different parameters with always the same result in days to months. Sorry to be so negative, but its looks doomed to me. If it was that way in the LFS then they sold you an anemone that was on its way out. I would guess that it was not attached well (if at all) to anything. Also, healthy S. haddoni usually like to bury their foot in the sand - this one looks like it is just laying on the sand. If it had not done this in the store it likely won't in your home tank. Here is a picture of a healthy red S. haddoni with foot completely buried:

i gently coaxed it into a section between some rock and sand and this morning it's attached to the rock and no longer looks like a round pancake. it actually has folds in it's body now.

i'll take a picture tonight when the lights turn on but overall, it's starting to have the shape/appearance of a carpet.

So what is the true requirements on keeping a carpet anenome? I'm quite intrigued now :)
Not all carpet anemones have the same care requirements. Read the anemone FAQ (pdf format) at the top of this forum.

some new updated pictures from about 5 minutes ago.

and this guy who seems to enjoy his new friend...

i know it's still early but it does seem to be going in the right direction? foot is attached to the rock underneath and a portion of it is also attached to the glass of the tank.

Looks a little better. Although I am a little concerned that its mouth is gaping a little, it's not out of the woods yet. Hopefully it continues the upward trend. Good luck.

i had a green carpet anenome, that i bought from a LFS, and it had a huge mouth opening and it did the same thing as yours is doing, but in the end it fell apart??? the insides fell out!was dead in 2 days......i hope you have better luck with yours than i did.

For those with red carpets, could you say what kind of lighting they require (including depth of tank)? Do you feed them? Thanks so much!

Steve

Here is another Stichodactyla tapetum, that I actually got from Gary (thanks for that sir) Very nice little anemones that currently live in my 2.5 gallon pico tank.
