rorey233, if your just starting out you should wait till your tank matures a bit and stabilizes say around 6 months would be good number
one of the tricks to keeping any anemone IS VERY STABLE water cond
And starting out I would suggest a BTA (bubble tip anemone) Not a carpet there pretty demanding
Read through this it will help:) Good luck with your future anemones;)

Gary,

Gary,

Your blue S. Haddoni in a BB tank? For how long? I am thinking of doing a BB tank for the anemones but am not sure the long term effect on this species.
Thanks

The foot of the anemone is under that large rock on the left side. So is the foot of a LTA Macrodactyla doreensis- another sand dwelling species.
I still have a slight dusting of sand on the bottom even though I removed my DSB in 2005. (Sand keeps seeping out from under the rocks.)
I've had the Haddon's for 3+ years and the LTA for 9 years.

The brown coral on right side, bottom half, is it an anemone? Sacrophyton? Beautiful tank, and thanks for sharing.

Gary,

Gorgeous tank, what has been the growth rate of your Haddon's carpet in the last 3 years?

I ask because I picked up a baby blue haddon's carpet and I only have it 3 days and it's doing great.

Just wanting to learn more.

Thanks,

Mike G

P.S
Do you think I'll have any luck that my two black variant ocelleris will host this carpet? If so how long of a wait?

The big brown coral is a Sarcophyton.

Anemones generally gain more mass (grow) quicker if fed regularly and given adequate lighting.
Conversely, cutting back on feedings and/or poor lighting can result in a loss of body mass.
I've seen ocellaris host with Haddon's anemone. I've also seen Haddon's anemone reject ocellaris (personal experience).
Good luck with the pairing.

Went down to a LFS yesterday and picked this Haddoni up been watching it for 2 weeks to make sure it was healthy, it has been in the tank for less then 24 hr and had just consumed his first piece of silverside :D about 5 min before this was taken(thats why the mouth is opend a bit) has buried himself about half way into the sand so far but he looks like hes gonna do fine in my tank
My Camera sucks sorry for the poor pic he is purpleish blue :D

do the carpets stay on bottom or they do go up on rocks? i want to add 1 only if it will stay on bottom.

Depends on the species. S. haddoni will likely stay on the bottom, prefering a sandy substrate (except for juveniles which seem to prefer rock). S. gigantea seem to prefer rock, but seem to stay near the rock/sand interface.

I don't know about S. mertensii but I think they tend to climb a little bit. Someone with this species will be able to comment more.
