It looks like we have NCPARS frag swap two weeks before us even though we have set ours first months ago. Do you guys think is worth having a meeting ? Should we look into another date for the meeting? Any suggestions guys ?

Mo,
I think it is a shame that NCPARS members did not keep their event further away from your event (especially since you've had your date posted forever.) Their events were always planned for October, it would be nice to hear reasoning as to why this one was changed. I was trying to keep my calendar as free as possible in October for that reason.

As for the hubby and I, we actually can't go to either event. I will have my students at a conference in Pittsburgh on the 4th and during your event we will be in the midst of a massive tree harvest. The end of November and into December is always spent on my parents' Christmas tree farm.

Hope you still have a good turn out. We definitely want to come see the store when things calm down around here.

Btw, we just got back from Bermuda and the fish life was great. We snorkeled at Tobacco Bay and it was awesome. Can't wait to go back again

Thanks Dyan and it does look like you guys going to be busy around the event time. I won't be with the new store anymore but you I will let you guys know where to come and see me soon :)

I planned my vacation home from Florida so that I could come to the meeting but since NCPARS is now having it two weeks ahead of time I guess I just get a really long Thanksgiving break. Looks like I will have to order a frag pack from somewhere to refill my tank now.

Mo
What do you mean you won't be with the store anymore? Do you mean the day to day operations of that you are selling your part? I need to order some fish in the up coming months so hopefully you are still involved with the store in some way.

Selling my share and won't be around there. Your dad was by to see me not long ago and it was nice of him to stop by too.

He called me right away and was telling me about the store and how impressed he was. I will check it out when I come home for Thanksgiving. Are you moving out of the area?

Mike, it was nice meeting you the other day. Not sure what the plan is for the big tank but I know I won't be around to do much with it. I'm Working on another big project and hopefully it goes through soon and will make sure I will share it with you guys and maybe a frag meeting there :)

Mo, I dont think it will be a problem, having the meetings close together....Just reserve some frags for both meetings.....

Sorry Murph72, I didn't see your post here until just now. We certainly knew about the Reefnest date and tried to work around it, but we moved the NCPARS swap to early November because we simply couldn't find a venue in October that worked this year. We are going to try to move around the state a bit more, and so we are going SE to Reading this swap, and no places were available that we could find that were affordable. We are moving locations partly to try to attract new faces from different regions (this time, Philadelphia, Baltimore, etc.) and get some new frags into circulation instead of the same ones we've all traded already at past swaps. I am sure taht although some people in the NW will only go to Williamsport, and some in the SE will only go to Reading, they are 2 weeks apart and so some people will definitely stop in at both. Next spring, with Mo's posting May 12 as a tentative date, NCPARS will be shooting at late March or early April for a date. And we're going to try to get some folks looking for a location early enough that we won't run into a scheduling problem the way we did this time.

Barney,
Sounds like a good idea.
I just would hate to see people thinking that these two clubs that are within a short distance of each other are trying to compete with each other. I belong to NCPARS, but I love what Mo is doing with Reefnest and would love to support him by at least attending his swaps. I think there are many of us NCPARSers that feel the same as I do about the potential of an educational group such as Reefnest....so I think that's something we should be saying repeatitively.
Some will always think there is conflict whether that is true or not. I'd just like to see the two support each other as we did in the combined swap in Williamsport.
I hope that both of the swaps are a success even though my schedule does not permit me to attend either. Maybe in the spring I can attend both :) Some events with my job I can't plan around, but you can bet if I can I will do so.

I totally agree. Obviously Mo/Reefnest has been doing a lot of stuff, some overlaps with NCPARS, some doesn't. Since he's on the NCPARS board, we certainly don't think there should be any conflict. I think part of how Reefnest works is that NCPARS is often a bit slower getting going on things than we could be (beat-up-self==on), while Mo is really out there and active doing things individually. Some of that's the nature of a bigger, more formalized organization vs. individual action. But we do want NCPARS to do more educational stuff, too, and some of the members have been working on things with schools (e.g. we've been trying to get that going in State College). There's no reason that NCPARS shouldn't support Reefnest, and vice versa.

Anyway, some of us will hopefully be coming up the Reefnest meeting/swap too, I know I have it marked on my calendar.
