Glad to see you put this "getting out" stuff on hold buddy.
As mentioned further up in this post, your generosity and "Pay it Forward" attitude have paved the way, and influenced many reefers to do the same. You are one of the first "reefers" I met in the Tampa area when I moved down here and got back into the hobby. You said to me "Pay it Forward" when I got that MJ1200 from you, and I have been doing that ever since. I have given away countless numbers/pieces of hardware and frags that always come with "freebies" when someone does get something. I hope that I have/do forward the kindness that you have showed so many people.
On that note, if you need assistance while out of town, I am sure that fellow reefers will come out in droves to aid you. You done it for others, and it will come back to you ten fold. If I was still living over there, I'd be there for ya on a daily basis while you compete in road racing out of town/vacations, whatever. Rest assured buddy, you have the assistance you need to be away and still have peace of mind that when you come home, your Reef has been well taken care of.
As for losing the dedication, it comes back. I went through this for about 2-3 months last year, not long after I automated everything. I worked, played and played, and I felt that I was neglecting the system...I had everything listed on paper to sell it all off. I was slacking off on WC's, changing socks, even cleaning the glass. Then I woke up one morning and that all changed, and I was head first into getting back on track. I think there sometimes comes a plateau in this hobby when we lose interest, and the tank comes 2nd because there's not much to do to it. It's growing out or grown out, you've got a huge top-off system in place, your water is so clear and clean that the socks don't need to be changed as frequently... Basically, it's at it's peak of perfection; where you envisioned it from the start.
I felt pretty lost when I was in that "smog", and really thought I was gonna shut it down. But as mentioned, the drive and desire came back overnight. I'm not sure what did it, but I'm glad it happened, because here I am again, head deep in saltwater/corals/tanks and fish doodoo, and that satisfaction and pride had been completely restored.
I'm glad to see that this post has taken you "off the ledge", and that you aren't going anywhere. Now go change your socks!
