What fish has bitten you

Funny that the clowns are the bitters from the responses so far. Aren't they supposed to be the milder damsels?

clowns nip IMO . crocodile Dundee had a knife correct ! lets hear about some damage . my eel turned my finger into hamburger meat for a couple of weeks ,it happened fifteen years ago and you can still see the scarring ! now thats a BITE !

Undulated trigger got me a couple years ago, gold canary Blenny and my trio of b&w clowns are the devil incarnate, I have had them for 3 years until I lost them recently but they would find a way to bite the soft part of your hand, no matter what or were or how you held your hand. But they were just protecting there home, female would even come to the surface and almost fully out of the water to get you. Wouldn't have traded them for anything though

The only problem I had is with my lionfish. He is always hungry and he has absolutely no fear of anyone. I always hand feed him since he has a habit of ramming into any feeder sticks to try and get to the food (he acts more like a bull shark than a lionfish with an appetite to match :P). I had to have my mom feed my fishies one day and she had no problems hand feeding the magnificent foxface or zebra eel (who has been hand feed since he was just a wee little baby barely a few inches big). I guess she didn't release how aggressive the lionfish is when it comes to food and he swallowed the food along with my mothers figures. I guess the lionfish quickly released that my mom does not taste good and let go with no damage.

I know this is off topic, but I wanted to add some large clownfish since I have a large hammer head coral about 8inches in diameter maybe a little bigger. Now considering everyone's account of how aggressive their clownfish are will they pose a threat to my lionfish? Since, he gets picked on by other fish...hence why he only has 2 tank mates.

I also had a female A. occelaris that bit me everytime I put my hand in the tank. One day when my hand was resting on the rim above the tank, she launching herself out of the tank in an attempt to bite me. I made the mistake of picking her up off the floor and putting her back in the tank, which resulting in many more years of being bit -- and always either across the knuckles or between the fingers at the sensitive webbing, like others have mentioned. My clown wasn't a part of a pair and didn't have a coral home...

How many people's biting clowns have been captive bred? I once saw a photo of a woman at ORA feeding baby clowns & her fingers were in the water, and I wondered if that is why there are so many finger biting clowns out there...

The only other fish I ever had bite me was a minute 2 spot blenny at a shop where I used to clean tanks. Blennies aren't nice fish...

Mine was captive bred. I always try for that, they are just bulletproof when CB!
Anyway, I do not think a clown will bother your lionfish. Is it a Maroon? You mentioned LARGE so I'm assuming that or Tomato/Red saddle complex clowns.

Matthew

PS. A large Maroon or eohippum clown might be a nuisance or threat to your Hammer. It might try hosting in it, and cause the polyps to remain retracted.

my orangeshoulder tang bites me every time i put my hand in the tank, it ALWAYS wants to eat no matter if i just fed it a hole nori sheet! hahah and my ocellaris as well but the clown was more of a territorial behavior

I will probably be adding a maroon. I personally don't want one, but my mom keeps bugging me to get one since she likes them. I will watch my hammer to make sure it is a mutual relationship :P

I have kept several species of damsels and all of them have bitten me at one time or another, my current female yellowtail blue is a biter but her mate is all bluff. My other biter is my female true perc, the male is very mellow but the female will bite me whenever she gets the chance and she has drawn blood on a few occasions. The worst wild fish bite ever was also a damsel in Hawaii and it was a good sized one who took a chunk off the top of my thumb. Nasty fish them damsels.

My starry blenny got me once last weekend... he usually is pretty chill, but I think he saw the hairs on my arm and automatically thought "Ooooh, algae!"

Female maroon clown fish, she was a devil. Every time my hand went into the tank she would seek out the softest piece of tissue and attack. Drawing blood a dozen times, she no longer lives with me...

-a 9inch yellow dogface puffer bit a good little chunk of the tip of my pinky off.
-7 inch dogface forget the variant (bronze with blackish spots) bit my thumb just the other week and drew blood.
-maroon clown bites me every time my hand is in the water
-tessalata moray 14inches or so grabbed my thumb while i was feeding but let go quickly.
-9inch regal angel bites the hair on my arm frequently

My porcupine puffer nipped my finger this past weekend while I was adjusting one of the powerheads..... thankfully it was just an exploratory nip and not a full on bite! Scared the S#@^ out of me....

These days if I let my arm linger too long in the tank, my mimic file will try to clean the (rather numerous) freckles off. Ouch!
