What happened

I came home from the swap and decided to do a coral dip with 1/2 fluke tablet for 2 gallons of ro water in a very clean bucket that has not been exposed to any chemicals. The dip was for only 10 minutes, but once i put them back in the tank no colors were showing and they were all browned out. This morning i can officialy say that they are all dead. I am lucky i only dipped 7 corals which included.

ORA Cali Blue Tort :(
ORA Borealis
Tyree Sunset Montipora
Tyree Pink Lemonade :(
GARF Purple Bonsai
Birdsnest colony
some random acro from crf

What happened???????:(

man that sucks. i thought ppl meant ro when they said just dip it in water. Thats what i did for other coral dips

was i supposed to use salt??

Definitely! I would never do a freshwater dip, much less 10 minutes, on any SPS. I dont even like doing ro dips on zoos unless it is 100% necessary and even then they dont respond very well to it.

Elan in 20 years the only critters I've dipped in freswater/R/O water are zoos-to rid them of some pests that are specific to them.
An sps dip is a stressful proceudure.

BTW the rest of your corals should lie in your sandbed for a couple of weeks to acclimate- sorry for your loss, I bet i will never happen to u again.;)

Thankfully those were the only corals i dipped. I am so glad i still have my Oregon Tort :) and some others. I have learned my lesson to not "assume" anything.

I should put the corals i did not dip in the sandbed too? I have t5's and im pretty sure they came from t5 tanks. That what vick told me

Dang man... I thought you realized it was salt water... SPS can never ever be in freshwater. Now it makes sense why you were worried, and why the corals weren't doing well... I'm really sorry I didn't ask what type of water you used. I think I even asked if you had them acclimated already, and you said they were acclimated. After I acclimate the corals individually, I always just pool them all together in a larger bucket, then add the chemicals to that water. I guess I should have asked specifically what water you were using, it just never occured to me to ask.

Elan, I've got Sunset Montipora, birdsnest, and should have some GARF PB. Next time I'm around I'll see if I can manage a few small frags for you.

I've never done a fresh water dip on anything before, I assumed that the procedure was lined out. I guess it's because I've posted the full procedure so many times on this forum over the last week or two that I though people had read through it by now. It happens, but it'll hopefully never happen again.

Thanks Eric. Keith was nice enough to give me the GARF and birdsnest today. I will take you up on the monti though. lesson learned
