Any recommendations for a supplement to enhance SPS coloration?

I currently dose kalk w/ my auto top off and use Instant Ocean salt.
Goint to be switching to Red Sea Coral Pro as soon as I run out of my current IO salt (3/4 bucket)

TIA,
Fredy

I normally don't recommend trying to attain color thru supplements.

I normally get great color by regular water changes, dosing A & B, Kalk and making sure my water params are stable.

rods food did wonders for my sps

+1 one to this big time. No science behind it, but I feed it every three days and I noticed a huge increase in coloration of my sps.

It's use was intended for target feeding my LPS and fish, but the sps reacted nicely as well.

Supplements should include Calcium, Alkalinity and Magnesium, in balanced amounts.

For feeding, I feed Rod's Food Coral Diet, Coral Frenzy, and frozen Cyclopeeze.

I also dose Vodka, to enable me to feed more, while still keeping nitrates low.

I wouldn't recommend any other "supplements." Regular tank maintenance and keeping high water quality, will get you the best benefits.

+ 1 , never tried the reef chilli , but i can tell you rods is some good stuff , dont use it daily though i feed it every other day , just a small chunk the size of my thumb nail and also dont rinse it like you would other frozen foods just thaw in water then pour in ..

Can I ask you why you are changing salt?? To me....IMHO....IO is the best bang for the buck and very constant with trace levels...

Regards,

Trace levels in Coral Pro are higher than IO. I was going to try IO Reef Crystals but been reading more negatives than positives here on RF. So far the Coral Pro had gotten good press so I wanted to give it a shot. I have nothing against IO been using it for 7yrs with no complaints.

Just got the new Red Sea Coral Pro and tested Ca, Mg, ALK and #'s were right on as indicated on package. Mixed well without any residue and I was using the "old" formulation of Red Sea Coral Pro. We'll see how corals do in a few weeks on it.

Keep us posted. I pick up my bucket tomorrow, but I still have 3/4 bucket of IO to finish off first :(

I was going threw the same thing. What to dose to boost color vodka, iodine, potassium? I found that dosing elements that contribute to color only made things worse, over dosing. Unless you are running a ULNS with vodka, Zoevit or pellets then you will not need to dose thing like potassium. Regular water changes will replenish everything corals need for color. The most important thing for sps color is stable water parameters and good lighting. I was also on a what salt is better thing to. I have been using Reef Crystals for a while and was not to happy with it, so I thought. After a lot of asking around and reading here on Reef Central, you should just pick a salt that you have a good supply for and is in your price range. I really like TMPR and HW Reefer. Reef Crystals has also been good to. Has high ca alk and mag, mixes up clean, clear and fast. Now all I do is dose kalk in my ATO and test regularly to make sure things stay as stable as possible. Feeding your fish well also helps with sps color because fish poop is great coral food.

"Feeding your fish well also helps with sps color because fish poop is great coral food."

I have read that on here a couple of times, I always got a kick out of that:lol2:
From responses and some additional reading I guess I'm going to keep with my Kalk, water changes, reef chili (similar to Rods just freeze dried product) and keep my fishies crappn' :lol2: .

I was a bit concerned about having to worry about params by adding additional products too.

doesnt rods food already have cyclopeeze in it?

I used only cyclopeez for sometime, really made no difference.

Reef Chili info from BRS site.

Product Description.Reef Chili was originally created as a frozen fish/coral food and it worked out great, except for one thing, cost! Shipping frozen products overnight around the country is simply too expensive. I made this product because I was tired of trying to feed my tank a dozen different things to keep all the corals and fish healthy and colorful. I also wanted to achieve faster growth rates from some of my slow growing frags and see my otherwise nocturnal corals come "alive" during the day with the lights on. All these products were frozen, expensive to ship and none of them are sold by the same vender. I soon realized that none of this was necessary! I could make a 100% nutritionally complete that didn't need to be frozen. Better yet it can be done for just a few dollars a month. I have included all the key ingredients in the new Reef Chili, Bio-engineered Zooplankton, Spray Dried Phytoplanton, Freeze Dried Rotifers, Freeze Dried Copepods, Dried Daphnia, Spirulina Powder and an Artemia Nauplii replacement diet. With this much variety you can feel safe knowing that you have done your best to meet the nutritional needs of every filter feeder in your tank. There is absolutely no need to use any other products.
