What is your favorite Angel?

BobNY, that pic is now wallpaper on my PC too! We've had one that looks very similar to that in size, etc., in our 180 for about 3 mos. now. He rules with a firm but even hand (fin). Recent publications have put their max size at something like 18 inches! I would like to see a pic of one that size.

Mike, Mine is now about 6 inches at three years. When I got him he was maybe about 2.5 inches. Watching him grow from juvi to adult and seeing the color transformation has so far been one of the most rewarding expiriences I've had in this hobby.
I haven't seen that about getting to be 18 inches. All I have read has always put it in the 11-12 inch range.

ah, I had wanted to see an angel change over to adult form, and tried it a year or so ago by buying a small Koran. He grew slowly (I don't think we were feeding as much as we should have), and we lost him after about 10 mos. while trying to get rid of ich. So our patience had been somewhat depleted, and we went with instant gratification this time around :). Looking at a 180 with a few small fish that would eventually fill it up when they got big was just too much for us.

Scott Michael quotes the 18 mark in his Butterfly and Angels book. But I've noticed a few inconsistencies in that book that may indicate sloppy proofing and the number could be a mistake. In his older fish reference he does say something like 12 inches. Can't remember if I've seen the higher number someplace else or not.

We have three angels in the tank currently - a very small mesoleucus and a medium coral beauty. We had a wonderful blue spot chaetodontoplus that died in a tragic powerhead accident. But it was really something seeing the 4 angels swimming around, interacting and getting along reasonably well together. I also have a beautiful potters angel in my sps reef, and very tiny cherub in my 21 nano. So yeah, I like angels :D And I'm very pleased that they may be candidates for aquaculturing soon.

Hell's Angels, of course.

I've seen one hotumatua in a LFS here. It is so much more beautiful live than any pic I have ever seen of it! The orange is brilliant. It is kept in the sps stock tank and isn't really for sale, although the owner says that if someone gets their card to clear for $2 grand, it's theirs.

Oh, I definitely got to vote for the Majestic Angel (p. navarchus)...This guy, and a hippo tang, are the two reasons I got into this hobby. My wallet, however, is less enthusiastic! :-)

The Majestic is just so beautiful, the most fantastic colours and pattern of any fish. I don't think it can be surpassed. It really is natures masterpiece IMO.

The Regal (Indian Ocean variant) is another exquisite angel when in good health and vibrant. The Pacifics fall a tad short in the vibrancy department but we're talking about magnificent fish just the same.

Of the dwarfs, the Flame is hard to beat. Some of the Caribbean / Atlantic dwarfs are really beautiful but we don't get to see many of them here in Australia. I have a Flameback (Centropyge aurantonotus) on order at the moment; after seeing one in a Dealers display tank recently I had to have one.

The only negative with Angels is the potential to nibble corals, although that is not always the case. Size can sometimes be a limiting factor ( apart from the dwarfs of course).

It's not as colorful as many, but my favorite has always been the gray angel:

Also, not a good aquarium fish, but very pretty is the rock beauty:

My favourite used to be Majestic but now i love Emperor or Imperator Angel. I have a juvenile and can't wait to see it go through color change.

My emperor is half way through metamorphosis to adult coloration. They are beautiful fish and definitely dominant. They grow rather fast and my 135 gal tank is looking small, I am planning a 270 future home.

It is very hard to pick a favorite for me. Blue Face, Scribbled, Bellus are all very pretty.

I know what my least favorite angel is.....

CLARION Angels

This is the Changeling, taken this afternoon. As you can see, the juvenile pattern is still present but the adult colors are starting to be more dominant.

Wow, that's a nice pic. Can't wait to see mine change colors. What and how often do you feed him?
