I have been reading a few threads about what the best k rating for bulbs should be but theres nothing better then first hand experience ... so what k/and wattage are your bulbs for what clams and how far away from lights?

I have heard 6500k-10k ... I cant imagine anyone lighting there tanks with 6500k bulbs.

I'm running two 250w 14K Phoenix bulbs on HQI ballasts and have four clams all doing great. I have two maximas in about the middle of the tank, a Crocea on the sand bed and a Deresa on the sand bed. It's a 72 gl bow.

10000k 250w Ushio, 20 inches above the sandbed. I only have one, a Crocea, which seems deliriously happy. I should add, there are 2 double actinics running with it.

400 watt 6.5Ks here with clams on the bottom of a 24" tank.

6.5s are yellow with out supplementation, but a pair of actinics can balance it out nicely and give you a bright white. Most of the time when people refer to these bulbs being yellow it has more to do with yellow/green water than the bulbs. If your water does have a yellow/green tinge to it then these bulbs will definitely make it show unlike the higher K bulbs.

was running 12K's, just recently switched to XM 10K's and my croceas and maxi's are 'much' happier

250SE's on sides and 400W SE in middle all about 8" above water and about 30"-32" from my clams(210g-29.5" high/ 4"-7" sandbed depending on where in tank)
