What lighting are you using?

Great thread! and......glad it has not turned into a big ole debate!!

I have a Red Sea Max and a 34 solona cube both plumed into one sump.

I have a new Radion Pro over the RSM and an Gen 1 over the new Solona.

I'm a big fan of the Radions/LED's. Low heat, low cost to run. no bulb replacement, fuller sprectrum, sleek design, programmability, upgrade ability and great customer service.

Here's a very crappy pic:

Standard 29h w/ a Current Nova Extreme 2x24 T5HO fixture running ATI Coral Plus lamps.

Love the color as well as coral growth.

I had one. If I thought it wouldn't wind up as the greatest rc meme ever I would post it from 1989. it was real joe dirt Im not joking, freakin loved it, so did the ladies with their waterfall bangs. and I liked them too.

Brandon I hear ya buddy... I have pics from '89 (graduated HS) and I was so rocking the Mullet... in fact they say I look just like the guy on "East Bound and Down" show

Tell me that's not hilarious :)

I have. 28 nano led. Works great plus no bulbs to replace for about 5-6 yrs can't beat that and heat is a lot less making them better in my opinion

Saw some of those bangs this weekend for some odd reason.

On my 12 gallon aquapod mixed reef I ran 3 TruLumen LED strips, 2 453nm actinic blue and 1 50/50 white/blue.
When I switched to my current 7.5 gallon/12" cube nem/LPS reef I decided to just use one all blue and the one 50/50. Both configurations worked have worked really well, and when one of the strips stopped working they sent me another promptly(and at no cost to me!) and without any hassle.

I have an RSM130D (34g) that I'm running ModularLED on and it works great. Was a bit of work to install but not enough to deter me from going that route again. In that tank I'm growing softies, LPS and several SPS frags are doing great. It's been just over a year with the ModularLED and I'm still very pleased with it.

I have a NanoCube12DX here in my office. ~5 years ago I converted it over to a DIY LED system (before you could buy kits etc.. it was all piece parts from around the world to say the least). I just recently replaced my DIY LED with a retrofit from StevesLED. I gotta say this was the easiest and most complete LED install for me to date. It literally took me longer to remove the splash shield than it did to install the retrofit LED from StevesLED.

I wrote a detailed review of it and if anyone wants a link just let me know. I can't cross-link from here so it will have to be in PM if you want the review.
I just got a RSM 130D and I'm glad to see many thread on RSM owners. The tank is not running yet until I do a few mods. Currently looking into LED's. Question, what are ModularLED's? Can you post pictures underneath the hood? or PM me pics just to get an idea on looks, and what involved to install the ModularLED. Thanks

I have a 34g tank with 80w (Cree and Semileds) LED lamp DIY, 8 colors with 7 independent channels.

Channel 1: Cool White
Channel 2: Violet + UV
Channel 3: Royal Blue
Channel 4: Blue
Channel 5: Turquoise
Chennel 6: Red
Chennel 7: Yellow

Since last posting in this thread two years ago, I have taken off the hood entirely from my JBJ 28 and am now using the Kessil A360N and it looks amazing!

5 gallon Tank w/ Current Marine USA Orbit led 18-24. I know the par drops off quickly but my tank is only 11.5" Deep and Im only going to keep soft corals and some lps.

coralife 29 biocube. Until yesterday I was rocking the stock lights and cheap LEDs that come with it. I upgraded to a nano box reef retro kit for the bio cube. The only DIY with the kit was stripping the hood and installing the heatsink to the reflector. So far my corals and loving it but I don't have anything that is too light intensive. My nem is already looking a bit better, he had started to lose some color in the last month after moving him over from the big tank I am taking down.

I have a 24 gal fluval AIO setup that I have been running for a year now. I just upgraded the stock LED lighting it came with about 2 weeks ago, went with the Kessil A160WE Tuna Blue and controller. I do love the setup thus far!

I am running the same set-up. Mine had been running since about Jan 1, 2015.

I love it and so do the corals.

ModularLED either changed names or went of our business completely. I tried looking their website up for another fellow reefer about 2 weeks ago and they are just.. GONE!

I still enjoy my ModularLED system (Mine was the prototype for their RSM lineup) and it still works great and it's controlled by my GHL ProfiLux P3.1EX controller. But since ModularLED are no longer in business (that I can find) I wouldn't suggest going that route LOL!

If I were to do it over again today I would go one of two routes:

* A) My first route would be to retrofit a GHL Mitras LED unit into the hood. They aren't cheap by any means but they are by far the "Bar Setter" in the LED fixture industry. IMHO no other system comes close in terms of features, build quality, or component quality. I'm a little biased towards them but I still believe they are by far the best.

* B) If I didn't do the GHL Mitras I would install StevesLED into my RSM. I installed a StevesLED into my 12g NanoCube here at work a couple of years ago and it's still going strong and has never given 1 ounce of problems. Super easy to install with the 99% kits they have.

Good luck and if you need anything else just drop me a PM and I'll help in any way I can.

Allen
