I got a chunk of Pink Zoos 1 week ago. They havn't opened up. I have moved them, checked chems..(fine) I have cleaned the Brown Yuk off of them with a freshwater dip. The Brown yuk is all over my tank. I changed the water 10 days ago. Temp ranges 79-81. What so you suggest doing? How long before my zoos die? Thanks!

You have a diatom problem that needs attention. Usually people get that with new tanks or neglected water husbandry. Freshwater dips for corals only irritate and stress them more then drip acclimation. Is the tank new? You said that the chems are in check, what levels did you get for temp, ph, ammonia, and nitrate?

Temp..79..Nitrates..< 10 Ammonia <0.1 Spec. Gravity 1.022 By the numbers..everything is fine. Obviously it isn't! What can I do? Now..if I only could spell IS..

It's a pretty new tank, isn't it? I would start bumping up the salinity to around 1.024ish to get closer to reef levels. Is flow ok? Lights?

It's been up for about a year. I just put new lights in. I have a 270 GPM Nano pump in the tank for added current, and the return pump outflow about the same.

Cut your light span in half until you start seeing some results. The diatoms indicate its a new tank. <10 ammonia tells me your tank hasn't even finished cycling. You should never see any ammonia in your tank, not even 1 or 0.05. Zoas are pretty bullet proof so they should make it through the carnage, but don't add anything else to the tank until it is finished cycling.

+1. Good advice.

You people should read... he said "Nitrates <10" "Ammonia <.1". That is the ammonia reading you get from most kits for 0 Ammonia.

I can do that! I did let it cycle before I put anything alive besides Like Rock. THEN I made the fatal error. I went on vacation. Need I say more? Vodka doser..ROFL!

YEA!!! My tank looks a thousand times better already! My Zoos are opening too. I am slowly upping the salinity also. Thank you all so much.
