What size stream do I need for my 90

I have a 90gal. SPS tank that is sumpless and I run 5 maxi-jet 1200's but would like to get rid of them. What size Tunze stream would I need to eliminate dead spots and have alot of flow? And would one be enough?

A 6000 with a single controller would be enough especially if you had at least 500gph flow from a return on the side opposite the Stream.

Would this size tunze stream be suitable for a 75 (48 x 18 x 20) (sumpless) also? Or is it too powerful?

Would be running a remora pro skimmer on the other side... with overflow box & maybe a hang on filter for running carbon.

Cheers

For SPS it would be fine. the skimmer and filter don't add enough flow to count. If you haven't done so allready i might suggest looking at a reefpack, I think they do much more and are a better option in terms of power and effectiveness than the filter system you are considering.

What if your not keeping predominantly SPS, but rather mixed with softies and LPS maybe a couple of frags of SPS? I have a 90 with corner overflow that is gated down to about 400-600 GPH. Would a 6000 with single controller be also recommended? Optimal placement would be on the direct opposite side of the return, high up on the tank, correct?

The 6000 is the best choice for SPS and leathers, it is not such a good choice for polyps, shrooms and certain LPS like frogspawns and torch. These corals like a very gentle current, the far end from the pump would be best for these animals but if you plan to keep a lot of them a 7300/2 or 7400/2 or better yet 2 of them would be the best way to go.

Ok Roger...

I've seen the Rio knock off and I'm not impressed.

I am setting up a new 60" x 24" x 28" mixed reef.
I have in the plans about 900gph (total) through the returns which will be at each end. SeaSwirls at the center of each end.

I know I'll want more flow and was thinking of a closed loop but your product seems like a better long term solution. At the cost of power in California (at least for me in the high use summertime) a pump running on 120 watts will cost about $22.00 per month to operate. Since I'll be running two pumps already, one for return and one for the skimmer, the streams may be a better option.

I'll be keeping some SPS at one end of the tank and towards the other end LPS.

As I said above the SS will be mounted through the euro bracing on the center of each end of the tank. With all the above crap I've thrown at you, what might you suggest.

Time really is not a factor, but if its going to take a while to get them, they should be moved to the top of the list. Most other major equipment is sitting and waiting for an engineer.:D

I think with the seaswirls on either end you could do 2 6060's and run them on timers. If you want a fancier set up with more upgradability 2 6000's and a multicontroller. The 6060's you could in theory have tomorrow, they should be stock. The 6000's probably 2-3 weeks.

Thanks Roger,

'nother question though. I like the speed control I think. So is there an advantage to a multi controller over purchasing 2 single controllers?, one for each 6000. Don't think I'll have a need for more than 2 streams in this tank.

Thanks again... Steve U

The multicontroller is better because you can do more. The single controller with branch adapter will have both pumps doing the same. Two single controllers will not let you do a tide mode where one is off and the other is on, the photo cells are also extra when it is included with the multicontroller.
