What type of BC/ Reg do you prefer and why?

I do everything possible to avoid using it :)

That's for sure :)

So far after nearly 30 years worth of diving, I've never needed an alternate air source of any kind, outside of practicing skills and doing class demos. Hope I never need, but it's good to know it's there and working at 100% just in case.

This is just a general feeler thread to peoples' favorite brands/types of gear. Me personally, since I do cold water diving:

I dive a Halcyon eclipse 40LB BC
Apeks xtx50 reg/ poseidon jetstream primary

I really like the quality of these brands.

What about you guys?

I also dive a Halcyon and I use an Apeks ATX50. Its 10 years old and have been looking at the TXT-series. What are your thoughts on your TXT50?

I got the xtx200, which is their top of the line model. But its the same as the xtx100 and the xtx200 tungsten, the only differences are the finishes on the first stage. Xtx100 has an unpolished metal finish, xtx200 is polished chrome, and tngsten is tungsten.

But in comparison to the xtx50, which is a great regulator i think the extra bucks for the xtx100 or 200 are worth it for the overbalance regulators. The breathing effort on them is non existing in all positions, even while looking straight up. I rarely dive deep, and have yet to do some cold water diving, but if i do id like to know i have the right gear to do so.

IMO, give that Air2 a second thought. I know Bob likes them on all the university BC's, however, on a personal level I find them more trouble than a good basic octo....not to mention I've seen people grab their snorkel instead. I like to keep my air supply on the right side where it is supposed to be ;)

Ya, I had an Air2. My Knighthawk came with it but I dumped it after a few months. It's a cute idea but I prefer the consistency of an octo and primary. A for me. B for the numbskull that's going to need the octo. He was trained to look for that thing in a certain place and I'll put it there so that he can stay away from my face. The other thing is have you ever breathed on an Air2? (or similar I'm sure) If you need my alternate, I'm not letting you put what is perhaps the most important piece of gear I have in your mouth while I suck on an Air2. The nice thing about an Air2 is that it's so short that it would be hard for anyone to take it from you  but I've just made a point of diving with those not likely to ever need my Alt.

I have also dove with a MilSpec Ranger BCD. I figure if it is good enough for special forces it is good enough for me. The thing is easy to travel with (light and foldable) and has been through hell and I have had no issues in 5 years over almost 500 dives!
