Where Have All the Magnificent Magnificents gone??

So I have been looking for years for a truly beautiful Magnificent anemone and am coming up short. I can't even seem to get one through the distributor/importer that my lfs orders through. I am looking for one that has the blood red or pink foot with the purple or green tentacles. Have they stopped collecting these from areas that produce the best Mag's? Are they a thing of the past? I would greatly appreciate anyones opinion or info on the subject. I would also love to see anyones pics of their Mag's in their tanks.

Not as fancy as what you're looking for, tan foot but it's healthy with a pair of percs residing in it. Under a vertex illumina 200.

Looks great/healthy! Thanks fr the pics. This color seems to be what I am seeing the most now either online or at my lfs, which leads me to think that the really fancy ones are a thing of the past in the aquarium trade anyway. Congrats on your nem though, looks great!!

Thanks for the pics! Looks great, Yours are getting closer to what I am looking for. I worked in a pet store years ago and I remember only one coming in, and it mst have been around 1998 that was what I am looking for, now they just dont seem to be around

The ones in French Polynesia all have blood red bases. Miles and miles of them - blood red.

Good to know Bonsai. I've seen pics from the Red Sea where there are mags with the bright red bases. Any idea why they aren't imported? I'd love to get a hold of one. I'm sure they would command good prices.

And thanks Pamocanthus, two of mine have the "regular" reddish base (they are clones), the other one has a nice purple base. Because I'm not good with photography, I can never get the purple to come out in the pics. But it is a very nice purple color.

I agree with Gary that the red ones typically come from Africa. I don't think I've seen one quite like you describe though. This is a typical red African magnifica. All pic's are of the same anemone.

Do you have a pic of the anemone you're looking for?

I've had this anemone for about two years~. I got it through my LFS.

Anemones seem to be seasonal. At least for magnifica and gigantea.

Here are a couple of pics I pulled off of google. What I am looking for is pretty much the contrast in color between the foot and the tentacles. I would be happy with either purple/red foot with green or yellowish tentacles, or the pink foot with lighter tentacles. I think It was Sprung that put out a book in the mid 1990's and onthe cover was a Mag that had a red foot and the tentacles were just as purple as purple can be, and that has always stuck out in my mind.

The first one you pictured is bleached, so you don't want one like that. It's hard to say what color the column is on the second mag, but I doubt it's red. I guess just about anything is possible, but I've never seen a red mag with tentacles like that.

heres another that shows the contrast. These may just be Mags that are in areas that arent collected from, or a variant that is rarely sen even in nature

Actually while I am asking questions, heres a few more... So you said that mags and gigs seem to be seasonal, what seasons are they more commonly seen in, and I have a pretty big gigantea 22-24" and was wondering if there would be a probem with housing the two together in the chemical sense. Would the two chemically effect one another?

Here are mine that I lost after adding one that even better looking but unknow to me, carry an infection that kill it and the two healthy Magnifica's that I had for a long time (pictured above).

I got mine from a LFS here in Corpus Christi. I got a red base Magnifica right now for the last month. Not as colorful as the one pictured above, but still nice. I will post picture over the next few weeks once I know that it is doing well.
