Hello Everyone,
I need to know this fast because I would be getting one on Wednesday and I wanted to know if I got a ruby red scooter blenny would I be able to keep it with my blue leg hermit crab?
Thanks

They shouldn't bother each other too much. You have to be absolutely certain that the scooter takes prepared foods, if your tank is new. If not, it will die within weeks from starvation, when all the natural fauna has been eaten up.

Well I've had dozens of them rolling around my grow out system, currently inhabitated by a small Dragonet, small goby, cleaner Shrimp, harlequin Shrimp, and a large clean up crew. Going on about 18 months now without them touching anything that wasn't coral.

You sure you're talking about chocolate chip starfish, and not the green brittle ones? The green brittle are bad news, but I've never seen an issue with chocolate chips.

The tank is almost 4 months old at this point. Is that ok?

hermits are fine.. they won't bother the scooter unless it's already dying/dead..

you will require a large amount of pods. my pair would hunt pods all day, won't touch any other food. I recommend a mature tank

Scooter Blenny with royal gramma

Scooter Blenny with royal gramma

Hello Everyone,
I was going to be getting a ruby red scooter blend on Wednesday and I wanted to know if it would be ok with my royal gramma

I have a pair of BJT in my 150 cube. Model citizens that don't touch my shrimp, snails or hermits or any small fishes I have. Tons of character and both eat out of my hand. better have a decent skimmer as they produce tons of waste IMO.

yes. scooters float on sand, rocks and wall.. the royal gramma will be out swimming in the ocean. they won't bother each other

No, you should wait close to a year for a 70 gallon tank.

Read this thread carefully before you proceed any further:

Also this thread details what happens, when you buy a scooter for a 5 months old 30 gallon...

Please do extensive research on any fish, before buying them. A quick google "When can I have a red scooter blenny" gives you tons of material.

For fish that seems fully stocked but you might want to consider more cuc like snails or crabs to help you with algae issues and waste

Smiling here ...

Reading down, was about to chip in with my reassurances, but it looks as though you don't really need them any more!

I've got a Lubbock's and two flashers in a tank with a mated pair of firefish. One of the fires is out from the moment the blue lights come on in the morning, the other doesn't put in an appearance until early afternoon. They've got distinct personalities!

Glad to see that your two have cleared up their issues.

Mine was a chocolate chip he ate anything he could catch

No... As said above neither fish would work in your tank.... 90g min for a smaller tang (kole, tomini) and 125 min for any trigger

Question about a ruby red scooter blenny

Question about a ruby red scooter blenny

Hello Everyone,
I currently have a 37 gallon saltwater tank that is about four months old now and I was thinking about adding a scooter blenny. I have checked and all of my fish are compatible. I just wanted to get some opinions on whether it would work in the tank of that size and age.
Thanks

No, sorry, and kudos for checking. This is a dragonet, like a mandarin. 100 gallon tank to feed it, because it eats naturally reproducing crustaceans in the tank, and does so on a very large scale, even though it's a tiny fish. It would starve to death. Smallest Blennies, gobies, all would work well for that size tank.

Filefish

Filefish

Hello Everyone,
I have a 37 gallon saltwater tank and I wanted to put in a filefish. The best one for my tank would be a matted filefish but I do have a hermit crab and a chocolate chip starfish. My concern is that the filefish will eat the hermit and the starfish. Thoughts?
Thanks

unless you find one that's eating prepared food, i doubt it will survive. a 4 month old tank won't have enough pods. tank size is sketchy. you will need tons of rock piles and no pod eating fish
