Who feeds fish roe?

I originally started using capelin fish roe in order to get difficult fish to start eating instead of brine shrimp which has minimal nutritional value unless gut loaded. However, I found that my fish go nuts for it, especially angels, butterfly fish, anthias. Who else uses this? I also tried salmon roe but that is so much larger in size that the fish had difficulty. Anyone else feed this stuff? I am also just starting to feed black worms, I will keep you posted on how that works out.

I feed it all kinds of it.

Paul, I have been feeding capelin roe because it is so small and easy for the fish to swallow. However, I also have salmon roe which is MUCH larger. Do you use that? How often do you feed it Paul?

I also feed capelin roe from Hmart, the asian store,my fishes love it and has provided growth to my bangaiis and wrasses,I feed every other day.

Fish roe = fish eggs.
Massago is safe and the fish do love it, it's the right size Steve, if there is one.
The Korean markets carry frozen pollack roe, usually frozen still in the eggs sack, but that's a seasonal thing.
Mitch I never thought to feed the juvi's roe, I bet that will make a big difference in growth, yes?
I get 4# packs when I make some food, the Korean man I get it from doesn't speak English, but I'm sure he thinks I'm nuts and at times I agree with him.
Hi Paul.

Thanks Sullyman! I can also get salmon roe but it is much larger. Do you know if the fish can process that appropriately. For my anthias, this is the food of choice and for difficult to start feeding fish, this seems to get their attention. I am also starting black worms. Anyone do that?

I feed fish roe whenever I get to the Asian market. The bangai's eat the salmon roe and so do the bubble corals and giant mushrooms. The smaller roe all the other fish eat.

Steve I've wanted to get black worms but never found out enough about them. They can be propagated can't they? Either way, where do you recomend getting some from?
Paul you had trained a Morish Idol to feed itself pellets right?

I built a keeper (very easy) which flows water over them and have been testing the keeper for two weeks and cycling it. My black worms arrive on Tuesday from Eastern Aquatics (easternaquatics@yahoo.com). I got this idea from Paul B. While the blackworms will breed (they eat brown paper towels) I suspect that they will not breed quickly enough to be self sustaining. Nutritionally, they are wonderful, especially for difficult fish. But in any case they provide HUFA which are probably also available in fish roe.

I had not considered feeding them to LPS corals. I will give that a try.

Sully, the massago is high in asthacksathin (sp). Be carful it is high in fat also,So fatty liver is a problem. If there are eggs in the water, must be time to spawn.

one might question the source of your salmon roe.
if its stuff you caught in lake michigan or any of its tributaries i wouldnt use it period.
