whole tank bleaching...(not rtn/stn)

So i want and have to figure this out! first thing first. here are params

temp 80
sal 1.025
po4 undetectable hannah (not ultra low model)
alk 10
ca 440
mag 1300

ok....here is the issue now. A bunch of my species are showing a somewhat "bleached" overall appearance... here is a quick list.

tri color bali
tri color valida
incredible hulk
sunset monti
elk horn monti
green birdsnest
blue echinopora

now here is the weird part, these are not showing any signs of this moderate bleaching....

cali tort
loisette
green stylo
orange cap
pink birdsnest
pink pocci

so as you can all see, i have it divided with the SPS that are affected and not affected. now i have no clue why this is happening. But it seems to me that the pieces that are bleaching, have the portions of the colony that are shaded and those portions are showing better color.

ALMOST LIKE THE SPS IS BLEACHING ON THE LIGHT ACCEPTING PORTION

sorry had to emphasize that point i think. so i tried raising my lights up a little bit. here is what i have for lighting. 2x250 watt radium setup on the correct PFO ballast. and 2 x 54 watt ATI super blue actinics. halides are on for 8 hours and t-5 on for 3 hours

i have a nice huge skimmer for the whole system, a octopus external rated for 280 gallons. i feed twice a day, a mix between pellet and mysis/prawn roe. i have 12 fish. there are no red bugs too. what the heck is going on with my tank ? lol

Has anything changed recently? New additions? Have you changed lamps in your light rig? Or ballasts, reflectors, etc.?

Has growth slowed or is it purely a coloration thing?

Makes me wonder and have found myself comparing color and growth to other members tanks Ive seen.I really dont know either but have noticed some of my sps seem to transform in color ,some better and some not.
One in particular ,whitch several members in this forum have seen is a red planet colony I originally got from Mark (capt cully). The entire original portion of the colony's coloration is different than the coloration from new growth since it swithed tanks. It literally looked so differnt at one point it appeared to be 2 seperate corals that were glued together.Unfortunately my tank has taken a hit recently and not in the best shape at the moment.
There's others Ive noticed a setosta is a very orange red in my tank compared to others Ive seen, whitch Ive noticed it to be more of a pink or bleahed orange look, but Im not at all sure why.

Ones that Ive had more trouble with getting or maintaining coloration is with loisette. This one Ive never been able to get the bright & vivid skyblue coloration I've seen others like you get.Came from your (brandons tank) just took on a more greenish morph for some reason.I dont know why though.

-Nate, I recall a few months back pascal and I were able to hold you hostage for an evening lol (j/k) but got you talking about differences in halides-t-5's and of course led.It stuck with me and I guess a part of me thinks its more about spectrum and how the light hits the coral as you were explaining they dont light the same.

Wondering between spectrum ,whitch to my knowledge t-5 are capable of producing more blue wavelength deeper into a tank than halides......I think......and how t-5's emit or more evenly saturate a coral than halides is part of the reason?
Obviously halides are much more intense than t-5 and Im thinking this is the other part of the reason some of us cant quite color up certain colors that have come from a halide lit tank.
Honestly ,I'm really not sure just thinking out loud.

Did you recently change/add carbon or ozone? Could be a water clarity issue

I would say all swing, but doesnt sound it

Steve, yeah, lighting technologies definitely differ in spectrum and directionality even when they LOOK the same to our eyes - that's why I was wondering if there had been a change lately, but it doesn't sound like that was the case here.

Lol,right it sounds like that was the issue for you Brandon,.Thinking about it now ,I turned off my carbon reactor months ago after noticing my zoas didnt seem to like it. Ive been using a bag in my sump.I think its going back online now.It makes sense in that we seem to have the exact opposite issues.

I was reaching Nate sorry to draw you in like that with my ramblings,I may have had to many drinks that day.

Mark wish the red planet was in better shape than it is at the moment. Its just wierd how you could see the difference in color from the time I got and how it morphed over the course of the last year. Not saying it looks better one way or the other just different.

Takes too many organics out of the water leaving the corals open to bleach because of how clean ur water gets....like not wearin any spf on a hot day

It can strip out a lot of trace elements bound to organics and idodine too when used in excess.

Pascal noted ozone. Are you using it or H202.?

Tom -

I don't think he is using it. I was asking because water clarity came to mind

Ok, Thanks for clarifying.
BTW I run rox 8 24/7 (1/3 cup per 50 gallons of water volume, ie about 2.7oz or 80grams/ml by volume) and change it monthly.
