Will a 3.5" female true personifer eventually go male?

Copps? Ccampbell?? I want to know what are the chances that the female will become male if shes never paired but in a tank with other misc angels? If so, what size do they convert typically?

Thanks
Eddy

Unfortunately the only answer I can give is most likely not. Typically that genus of Angels are females till they find a suitable mate at which time the more dominant fish will take on the male characteristics and transition as such. You will see the changes at around 7-8" which is why all male Scribbled, Meredithi, and personifier are collected
At or over this mark.

Eddy,

Did you get one back in September? I suggest getting 2 small ones and hopefully one will turn into a male. There's one slightly bigger on DD.

No, ive been inquiring but got a scribbled and chrysurus in October and both perished after a bad bacterial infection got a hold of the scribbled. really sucked. i thought i had a grasp of this hobby til that happened. but ive re-assessed and did some housekeeping in my qt so i think its ready. but one fish at a time in there from now on.

i was looking at the female true personifer on dd for 400. the price seems good and theyve had the fish for weeks.

Sorry to hear about the Scribbled. I've had very good results with Maracyn 2 with infections and it's widely available.

The one on DD was listed on 11/30.

I see a male meredithi once every couple of months but not sure how often we will see the true personifer after this batch.

is 400 a good price on the true? ive seen the price plummet from over 1k to this in a matter of a year...why? and can we expect to see it continue dropping?

The ones I have seen for over a grand were males. I don't know where the bottom is just look at those white cap gobies. The key is finding one that's healthy specimen from a reliable source.

Any idea why we are seeing them more often now? Are there more collectors or permits for them? Id like to know some of the behind the scenes with this species and why they are available for several weeks then not for a while.

The reason they were not available in the hobby was due to the fact that the area of Austrailia they are collected in is more remote and tougher to collect in. In addition, there is not many species of fish in that area that are aboundant and "marketable" to make it worth large collections. There was a collection there earlier in the year and they brought back a bunch of the true personifer. I bet that there will be a slowing of the #'s because the price has gone from $1500 down to $400...

Another reason for them being seldom collected is the fact that they are found in significantly colder water (high 60's). Therefore, the personifer vs the meredithi is a sub-tropical fish.

The true personifers that have been for sale as of late are not showing the "true" personifer look. The tail on the personifer is the dead givaway. For example, my 5.5" specimen has a black stripe (1/2" thick) through the tail. The ones that have been on DD have nothing at 4", and am not sure if/when it will appear. IMO they are less $ because of the higher quantity and lower grade.
