Will clowns pair twice?

I have two Clarkii clowns that have paired. The male was attacked by my Niger trigger. Strange, because they have all been living together for a few months. The Niger never bothered any fish in the tank. The Niger was swimming with the clowns tail in his mouth. He was pulling him into his little cave. The female clown poked the Niger and he let go. The female clown then moved the male clown into a corner and sat in front of him protecting him from the Niger. The male clown was small only a little over an inch big. I removed the Niger but the male Clarkii died today.

If I get a replacement male is the Female going to pair up again? Or will she know it's not her mate?

In the wild when a breeding (dominant) male dies, a subordinate clown takes over the role. So, yes your female will pair up again.

Good to hear. I'll get a replacement.

Any ideas why the Niger suddenly went aggressive after several months of living with these clowns?

Every fish has their own personality, ive had fish before that started off as role models then turned to the devil. But yes just find a new smaller clown and it should pair up.

Sorry for your loss.

Niger Triggers are reef safe because they do not pick on corals, but they will eat small fishes (or any fish if they are hungry enough).
