Sump cracked
Sump cracked
You know normally we leave our sumps as they are and don't really check on them too much. They stay pretty stagnant and a water spot or finger prints we are not usually too worried about.
Here you can see the sump, in these two pictures:
If you look you can see how I have things setup.
Water come in on the LEFT and goes back UP on the right. Skimmer pulls out on the left, fuge/cheato in the center, and GFO/CARBON in and out on the right. Of course the return pump going back up.
To chance the GFO and carbon I turn off the feed pump and disconnect the quick connect and open/clean/refill them.
The two canisters sit there with no problems and no movement, unless I manually move them.
Yesterday I did a full water change (30 gallons) and cleaned/refilled out the GFO and the carbon.
Everything was nice and simple.
Woke up this am checked on the tank to make sure nothing died off.
Came home to.... WATER ON THE FLOOR... I mean we have all prob done a little bit on the floor doing or dripping something. BUT:
Well... hummm what did I leave on... Nope.. not the ATO... NOPE.. not the RODI... Not the siphon hose I use... The ATO line did not get disconnected or leaking. Checked the GFO and carbon, maybe I did not push them in all the way... Nope.. all good... WAIT... What is that between the two canisters.
DEVISTATED... WAIT.. (insert a few experlitaves here)... It only has a small drip... it is still early... $1/gallon sale I come.
While driving over I try to deduce what caused this. I do not band the canisters against the tank or anything to get bubbles out. I tap them and fill slowly... I must have tapped/bumped them against it sometime, yesterday. I did the change my self so I am the only one that could be blamed.
OK.. so.. To get the sump back up and running I HAVE to get two 40g breeder tanks.
1) to replace the cracked sump.
2) to put the baffles in and let cure.
OK.. yeah... two $1/gal 40 gallon breeder tanks I got and brought home.
TOOK me an hour to do the following: (see next post)
