would you dose peroxide

spsfreak25

I'm the real joker
In a sps tank? I have alot of cyano and im running gfo have cheato. For flow im running a jebao wp25 in a 34g shallow tank. Im stumped and have come to the last straw

Where did you read this? I would not peroxide is a disinfectant and would take out your biological filtration. I have used for dipping corals outside of tank, no side affects. You may need to provide more info for anyone to help you.

I have done it before to fight dino. But i didnt have any sps in that setup. I just wanted to make sure they would be ok to do it with

I used it (full tank dosimg) several years ago and it was very effective against Bryopsis, but I don't know if it's effective on cyano. The tank was mainly LPS at the time - I would be quite leery of using it (full tank treatment) in the presence of acropia species however. SPS like Montipora and Stylo will tolerate an in tank treatment but it can be problematic with some inverts like shrimp.

Peroxide won't destroy your nitrifying bacteria on live rock if you stick to the standard dosimg ratio in a mature tank.

I wouldn't use it for Cyano and I don't think spot treatment is possible since it tends to spread on a sand bed which can't be removed.

How old is your tank? What tactics do you use for nutrient export?

If this is your waterfall tank seems pretty new and may pass on its own. What have you tried? Not sure why you would want to add peroxide to the tank as your cycle will start all over.

Lots of guys are using peroxide to fight algae. Just use the search feature and you'll find 10-15 active threads. I've been battling some dinos and have been flip flopping on trying this method.

its about a month old but used all the water from a 1.5 year old 12g i had. Also used all the rock from that tank. I have a etss skimmer rated for i think 150g, cheato, run gfo and carbon.

I dosed 1ml per 10 gallon for Dino's.

When i had dino i had cyano and bubble algae too. All the cyano was gone and the bubble algae was starting to die. The only thing that it did that i didnt like was make my rose bubble tip split when it was only 3"

just use cyano treatment medication, it worked wonders for my tank and have never seen cyano again. just make sure you stick to the general dosing rules and water change if you think the system is going south.

I was doubling my dose of gfo carbon, have chaeto, and it still wasn't going away after meticulous cleaning and scrubbing rocks and all the regular maintenance involved.

I thought biopellets were the cause took them offline for a while knew that wasn't it since the problem didn't go away. fluctuating system from taking the pellets offline almost killed my tank. **** got real for 3 month period.

last straw was using medication and I wish I would have used it in the beginning. would have saved me countless hours of labor and money from all the rowaphos and rox carbon I went through.
I used chemiclean, but all the other meds work fine!

Your export methids look just fine. Your tank is young and Cyano is often just part of the "new tank"' experience. For most it passes soon enough. I'd wait it out while keeping up with the nutrient export before adding a "Red Slime"'killing product. Whatever you can siphon out during water changes will be helpful. For me and many others ensuring good flow helps as well. Good luck.

I would love to kick up my jebao but i will have a sand storm in the tank. I have a jebao wp25

I have kicked my jebao to the max i am missing sand on half of the tank lol. Lets see if that will help a little

would you dose peroxide

1ml per 10 gal 1x a day. I have dosed as high as 2ml per 10 gal without any negative visible impact

As far as type, just the standard peroxide you would find at any drug store is what is used

I'm curious as to the outcomes of anyone that started dosing. I'm fighting bryopsis and would have started dosing but I'm concerned about stressing my rbta.
