Wow!

Am I weird that I like the female's markings better? :o Both stunning fish to see, though. I loved the video!

I like the males "mean" colors more but other than that I like the females better. The contrast is much better.

As for the tank.... I really like it. Sure it doesn't look like some beautiful SPS reef, but the fish are the stars of that tank. They are always in view and it is designed around them. What do you want in the tank rock? It is dimly lit for the fish, so it wouldn't be a good tank for photosynthetic coral, and rock would make it more difficult to clean and if you notice there is low flow in the tank, so waste would collect around the rock. Those fake plants, that aren't so gaudy anymore because they are covered with algae, are easy to move for cleaning. With a tank like that the fish are doing very well. They don't need a spotless display and the way it is designed it is easy to take care of.

As for the comment on the most expensive fish being in a 75 gallon, what size tank do you want it in? The bellus pair you mentioned get larger than a peppermint angel. So two bigger fish are different than one smaller fish. I also think 75 gallons is plenty for a single Paracentropyge. Also that fish has been doing very well and it is the only one in captivity so I think 75 gallons is okay. As for the bellus pair in a 120, SDguy has his awesome Genicanthus pair in a 110 so you can decide if you want a pair in a 120....

By "not being his display tank" I mean that he probably has a reef tank somewhere else. This is a species tank and its purpose is to enjoy the fish. I'm not going to critisize him for not wanting to add extra work to the tank if it is not needed.

Thanks for the response though.

Although its tough to see the entire tank, I do sincerely hope he has a place where the fish can be out of view. Keeping fish (or any wild animal for that matter) in an environment where it cannot hide and feel secure is unethical, in my opinion. While they do not seem stressed at all, we have no idea what would stress them, so offering a safe haven should be mandatory.

I saw this on GBD and knew there would be a post here... wow!

While we're on the subject, the tank does seem rather noisy....

Yes, Zire you are the only one not infatuated.
Gorgeous fish, but of course I'm another angel fanatic..

Matthew
Liked the display color on the male in particular, never seen a pic of that before!

I agree with you Zire, I don't find the fish impressive at all, they are extemely drab and look like South American Cichlids as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah you're right, I can totally see that...

I will admit that they are not for everyone, just like black tangs prolly are not for everyone, but these are impressive fish.

Hi all,

The fish are in a system that I would hesitate to label a display tank. Dr. Chung has a passion for breeding marine animals and this tank certainly reflects that style and passion.

In addition to his Leafy Sea Dragon and Personatus tanks he has a very nice SPS display. He was one of the success stories of full blown SPS reefs in the early 90s.

These angels are in fantastic condition and are being kept at the temperature they require. Hopefully some spawning will occur in the near future... there are plenty of individuals interested in the eggs!

Best,
Eric

I have absolutely no doubt that the fish are being taken care off.!!!!!!!

This is not some crazy bidding on a 2k chalice here LOL- its a long time hobbyist with a PASSION!
