Wp-40 failed

You can still buy 6 of these pumps for the price of 1 comparable ecotech setup.

even if the pumps die often, its still worth the money.

I'll be sure to tell my SPS colonies when I go on vacation.

IMO if its not reliable, it's not worth having. I own 4 mp10 and 2 mp40. I've had one issue that was resolved in three days.

To each their own. I hope the OP gets his issue resolved.

What data are you using to form your opinion that it's not reliable? I haven't seen the waves of reports from disgruntled users that many predicted.

Disclaimer: Even as a Jebao owner, I've never doubted that Tunze (since the MP pumps are not comparable to the WP stuff anyway) has far better build quality. I plan to use either Tunze or Vortech when I upgrade my tank and if I had a tank that depended on flow for much more than keeping a tank clean I might not have experimented with the Jebaos.

You have 6 pumps in your tank... Do you really think if you put 6 jabao pumps in a tank that they would all fail while your on vacation? and in the same manner, do you think the pumps you have can not fail at all while your on vacation?

The only downfall of the jabao pumps is likely going to be having to get replacement parts taking over 3 days like your last issue.

but if you have 5 pumps to back them up. it shouldnt be an issue. not to mention you can buy 15 pumps to keep in your closet as back up just in case and still pay less then you did for your ecotechs.

well, this is getting a little heated. Lets try not to get this thread closed and leave this as a place to discuss solutions for pump failure.

I think its safe to say there is clearly a trade off between price and reliability. For may of us, it is worth it, but I understand those that will not sacrifice. I am just using them on a swim tank, so if they fail, I don't face huge loss. If I had sps, I would likely consider some sort of backup for whatever pumps I used. I have had MP40's fail on me also.

Everytime I try to save a buck in this hobby it bites me in the [profanity]. Never seen anything like it. That said I am sure most with these pumps will come out just fine :-)

Good luck with the fix, having a community like this will definitely help

Meh.I have 3 wp40's and 2 mp40's one wp40 I bought about a month and a half before the group buy.No problems with anything.

Even the best break down and if you equate price with quality I feel sorry for you.
Not saying the wp's are a better quality but they haven't proved to be more reliable.I've heard far more of the mp40's breaking then their cheaper counter part.

Been running my wp-40 for past 4 months and working good. that I got off FS and WP-40 got from the group buy came with a bad powersupply and Macboat is getting me a replace meant power supply from jebao.best bet is to pm macboat see if can get you a new powersupply

Items

Items

I agree with everyone. In this hobby it seems you get what you pay for!!! Over time I feel some items are better to spend money on and other items you don't need to spend as much. It also depends on what system you have and want to keep.

This goes for Corals and Fish as well.

Is he a US distributor that I should look to if I have issues with my WP40s?

I'm glad you mentioned this as I hadn't even considered that would be an option. Macboat is going to help me out but as a point of correction; you sure aren't going to be able to pm him...:strange:

This kind of reminded me of how a Lexus owner bragged after my crappy nissan broke down in front of his house. Telling me why he stayed away from purchasing crappy stuff :/
You actually owned a Nissan??!
Just kidding :spin1: You should have pepper sprayed the guy!:blown:

I have noticed the power supply box gets warm. I had them laying flat on the ground and when I picked them up they were hot. Now I have them hanging so they are not flat against anything and they cooled off. But this does concern me. I have to WP 40's from this group buy. Other than missing a tiny sensor they have been great.

to anybody with this same issue, now or later, I would suggest trying a well made power supply like this one http://www.amazon.com/Switching-Pow...1373413854&sr=8-1&keywords=24vdc+power+supply

this one will run several of the Jebao pumps....the power supplies that are supplied with a lot of pumps and stuff like that are usually not very reliable long term, if you run your pump toward the higher flow side, the power supply is gonna get hotter and they don't have much of a way of cooling 'em..

don't let something like the power supply make you think that the whole pump is gonna be a problem, I purchase the battery back up for my Vortech MP60 and the power supply/charger for it lasted all of 3 days, I already had one that would work so I didn't bother try to get a replacement from Vortech

point is, these are minor issues that don't cost a lot if you can't get a free replacement
