Anyone have a clue what this is?
Thx in advance.. By the way, my Potters Leopard 2nd pic is doing wonderful for 2 months now. He has gotten bigger, and eats anything I feed like a pig!!

Pencil Wrasse. They really jump so make sure your tank is covered (egg crate will not work) Great fish!

They are gorgeous and easy to obtain. they can be difficult to get to feed though. I tried one a few years back that refused to eat anything I added and lasted about 3 weeks.

snorvich,
you say a lot that egg crate won't work. What do you advise, then, short of a glass top?

snorvich is right. Eggcrate won't work with most wrasses as they can still fit through the holes. Personally I use either a tight fitting acrylic or glass top (on fish only tanks) and clear mesh screen with much smaller openings than eggcrate on Reef tanks. There was a thread or two here on the clear mesh.

There was a thread by Bradley (I don't remember the exact user name) that involved getting 1/4 mesh screen and making a top. Personally, I use acrylic. I think Bradley's method is the best I have seen.

Guys, is it common for this wrasse to hide out? I didnt see him this morning, nor when I just got home at 745pm?

Well... He has been hiding for about 3-4 days... I just got up this morning, and I saw him swimming around the bottom of the tank. Lights were still out, when he saw me, he dove for the sand and buried. :(

Most fish will be really shy when you introduce them. I can't speak for his health, but the shier the fish the more they tend to hide at first.

Well I think I just saw what the problem is. He came out so I fed. He did eat. My coris wrasse chased him and the pencil dove for the sand.
