WTB: Tonga branch or similar branching rock?

Good luck! I posted something about a month ago for Tonga Branch rock, and I guess there is a ban from collection of rock from the Tongan Islands for a little while. There is someone who may be breaking down thier tank, a 37 column which is completely filled with only Tonga Branch. I told him i'd buy it all for whatever price he wanted, and i'm sure there will be some left. I'll keep you posted, but it might be a little while. I think he is going to break down his tank and sell off what stock he can. His corals are only very small frags, but he has a very bright RBTA and some pretty cool fish in there. Tank is drilled for 2 PVC overflows, and the return from sump is split into 4, with a current switching thing. Anyways, i'll keep you updated on the rock.

Also, just to let you know, there is Fiji Branch rock which is always available. It's not the same in my eyes, but you may like it. It's just larger dead pieces of Acro, and looks like a dead coral shaped rock. IMO, i like the randomness of Tongan rock much better than the Fiji, but you should check it out and see if you like it.

I see under current tanks, you have a corner bowft listed. Well, if you havent yet, come on over to the corner tank thread and share your loves and frustrations that come along with the corner tank ownership!

This thread has been going for a little while now, and i believe there are around 70 corner tank owners who frequent the thread, and everyone on there has some great advice. Hope to see you there soon!

Heya Jim,

Thanks for the info. I found this out about the ban and was hoping someone might sell some if they were getting out. Let me know what happens with that guy. So, you're buying it all, or you're buying part of it?

I am actually getting out of corner tank ownership, haha. I just took down the 37g and am setting up a 20g high right now. I am drilling this time, I figure I should have an approximately same amount of space since I'm getting rid of the overflow box (that'll go up for sale along with some other things in the next month or so.)

well I was going to buy it all, just because i know it's hard to come by, and i have been thinking about setting up another tank, but i'd be more than willing to sell what i don't need for whatever i had to pay for it. The second tank probably isn't going to happen anytime soon anyways, and i'm positive that there is more than enough for me in that guys tank. If I can get my hands on it, i will make sure that you are informed. I've been needing some big time to finish off my 54gal!

Sorry to hear that you're getting out of the corner world, but it sounds like you'll have a nice setup on your hands

If you really want Tonga branch and you are willing to drive, A Reef Creation in Buffalo has several hundred pounds of it.

Hmm, have you seen the rock? If so, what did you think of the pieces?

I am working all week and on Saturday- that is quite a drive... but if it's nice weather maybe I'll do it!

:)

I have seen the rock with my own four eyes! Very nice pieces and a LOT to dig through

Very interesting! Reeflady, i still haven't heard if that guy is breaking down his tank yet or not, but i'll keep you informed:)

No I didn't. Bills, bills, bills...HAHA!!!! We had a bunch of stuff going on over the weekend anyways, and it would've been very hard to squeeze that trip in. Are you planning on going?

Yeah, if he's still got the rock next wknd I was gonna make the trip. Maybe we could carpool. Shoot me a pm if you're interested.

I might be able to squeeze a trip in sunday, but i'll have to get back to you on that. If you were planning a different time, go ahead. I don't want you waiting around just in case I can't make it. Hope you get some sweet rock! If you do get some, you have to post some pics please. Thanks!

Hey Jim- Sunday was the day (I work on Saturday.) Why don't you shoot me a pm if you are up for it. I will try to post pix- I lost my camera in Morocco and haven't figured out how to upload pix from my cell yet. Man, I really need a new camera!!!

:)

Hey Jim-

I decided to ditch this plan and just order the Fiji branch rock- So, I placed an order and will let you know how it looks when I get it. :) Good luck with the Tonga...

Well it's better that you're not going because we've just booked our summer vacation, and i'll be needing to save lots o moolah!

Hi Dave, from Drs. F&S. - I ordered too late, so I won't get it until next week. I thought it had shipped, but turns out that it was my T5 lamp (yay!)

Jim- yeah, I hear ya!
