WTT: T5 for VHO's

I have 6 pairs of icecap endcaps and standoffs... and 6 icecap SLR's to trade for your VHO standoffs, endcaps and reflectors. Now, I bought the 4 set Icecap 660 retro kit from champion lighting and is less than a month old. The other two I bought locally from a fellow reefer and he had them fired for two months, so they are about 3 months old. The fixture is in new shape, heres a pick of them lit up... I would also want the VHO's to be in great shape...

I will be keeping my ballast being that I can use the VHO's with these...Thanks for the interest.

Why are you switching to VHOs? I run VHO and I would probuably go to T5 if I could. I find that you have more bulb selection with T5s.

All you need are T-12 standoffs. The good VHO bulbs have reflectors buit in.

Joey, Just add VHO Actinic bulbs to your T-5 setup! The IceCap 660 will run both at the same time as long as the bulb length is 16 ft or less.

I'm tempted to take down my 120 canopy and sell you my set of vhos for the t-5s, t-5s are suppose to give off better light, I've heard of people keeping sps and clams with t-5s and I wouldn't try any of that ...well maybe a derasa, with vhos.

You want to come come swap out my T-12s with your T-5s? I am game.... I want the SLRs though. I don't think you are getting a good trade. (-: Those SLRs are expensive. End caps are cheaper. I would tell you to E-bay your SLRs and just buy new T-12 end caps.

I only have 6 VHOs but I could give you the money for two more stand offs. (-: Again, I don't think you want the trade.

Can you repost that Uber frag link? It is broke and when I copy and paste it doesn't work either.

Joey, stick with the T-5s and find a bulb combination that you like, and provides the necessary spectrum/par for your livestock. In the long run, it will be better.

Well I'm shocked he was able to keep sps in there, I use VHO lighting on my 120, granted I have 4 bulbs and not 16. I do get great growth from my sps I have HUGE toadstools especially, and I've played with the idea of throwing my derasa in here but I would never toy with the thought of putting in a crocea clam. But t-5s on the other hand you could definately do any clam you wanted.

Joey you said that the heat issue is another reason you are changing. What is this issue? I have felt more heat coming from VHOs than T5s

Ryan, everytime I go near those things trying to feed the "fish" I get burned... checkinhawk also told me too that they are way much cooler, sorry for naming names!
Mike, how would they be better in the long run, I also heard T5's last only 6 to 8 months with the icecap 660. VHO's last 1.5 years... The actinics that VHO have are way more nicer for my taste too..
guntercb, how old is your fixture?? All I need is 6 pairs and thats also what I have to trade, I have been getting great feedback on both forums I posted... U kinda right though, would be cheape to get the endcaps and standoffs... well, now again, Im thinking...

not that much cooler.why not just switch out two of your T5's for vho and see if you like it.i do think the vho actinics look better than T5 but thats JMO.i dont think you will lower your tank temp buy going to vho(they may burn cooler)but i dont think it would be enough to justify the change.add some fans to the lights,add fans over the sump,this will help.i didnt see any fans in the pics of your lights.

thanks checkinhawk for responding, the heat is not the main reason I want to switch though plays a roll but I just love the look of the VHO bulbs more. I might do what u suggested, even better, just two and I'll run those as actinics, thanks a bunch again man...

Guntercb, u interested in a two bulb, standoff, endcap and SLR trade?? for your two bulbs and ballast?? I dont have a ballast for two bulbs, Thanks

I would only trade the 6 pairs of end caps for your 6 pairs of T-5 with SLRs... So it is not a fair trade. For cost I probuably should keep my VHOs. I use the Walmart $4 bulbs. I like the NO wally worlds bulbs for price not looks. (-: If my budget allowed I would have UV VHO bulbs. (-: So with T-5s I would have to spend a little more money. )-:

I would say to sell the SLRs and go with VHO if you really want to go that route. But before you do, look at all of the T-5 bulbs. You have about 14 different choice of T-5s and only like 5 choices of VHO bulbs. I thought that the T-5 had some good actnics now, but you cannot overpower the actnics with out it looking bad from what I understand.

If you don't have a ballast for the two bulbs buy a good T-5 non overdriven ballast and check out the actnics for T-5s.

I do have a broken IceCap 660 I could trade to you if you want to trade the 6 pair T-5 endcaps with SLRs for my 6 pairs of VHOs. I don't know if that would sweeten the deal a bit. If you are interested let me do some research on T-5s and be sure I want to go that route.
