I didn't know where to post this so I am putting it here.
2 weeks ago I went into a LFS and inquired about ordering a 120 gal dual corner overflow tank. We looked at one on display they had set up and I went home to think about that one.
Upon deciding on it ,I went to the store to buy it and talked to the asst mgr. about dementions and all. We got all of that cleared up and he wrote the ticket for ordering it . I reiterated that's for dual corner overflows. He said "right "and finished up the ticket. On the ticket he wrote "W/overflows". on my receipt which I have. I paid for it and also $100 for delivery.

About a week goes by and I go to the store to check on some things I want to buy. Low and behold, the tank was sitting in the middle of the floor. CENTER overflow l. I pointed this out and reminded them it needs to be DUAL corner overflow. I mean what in the heck is so hard about that? Anyway the guy made a phone call. to someone named Mike. They are all named Mike actually. They concered that I had specified dual corner overflow and decided to reorder the correct one. Thank God I went to the store that day.

One week later I get a call that they will be delivering Mon. between 12 and 2. They show up at 11 while I am sitting in my Living room on my computer on RC.( i'm retired)
They bring in the tank and I am overwhelmed! They set the t250 lb tank on the stand .I am speechless! The brought me a left side single.I told them I ordered a Dual Corner over flow. Their response was that MARINELAND DOESNT MAKE THOSE ANYMORE. If I wanted a DOF, the only way to get one is the mid back model like they ordered the first time ..and they left.. No one spoke to me about the dual corner not being made anymore . That was a lie anyway. I
They just came over and plopped down whatever the hell they wanted to. I wrote Marineland, told them about their vendor, and they gave me the model number (the one they don't make)of the tank I wanted.
I am so PI@@ed. I am considering filing charges for fraud I did send them an EMail letting me know that I know they screwed me. But we aren't done!
I gave the LFS called FishBiz. 3 options. !. delivering the right tank I ordered. 2, Give me a full refund. 3 Go to magestrates court and defend their actions.
If you were on the jury,what would you say?

How did you pay? Charge back option?

As a business owner, I would do almost anything for my customers. You should get what you ordered, a refund, or a DEEP discount that satisfies you. No other options in my mind. Good Luck.
 
I hope you paid with your credit card. Call your credit card company as soon as you can and tell them what has happened. Tell them that what you ordered and paid for has not been delivered and you want your money back. Good luck

It's the gaul of it all . I can't imagine what they were thinking when this decision was made to dump a tank at me. I mean it wasn't personal. They don't know me and visa versa

Yes the shop is in the wrong definitely. Ring your cc company and cancel the charge.

BUT in my opinion they may have done you an indirect favour! Bean animal and Herbie overflows are the best ways the plumb a tank. They are completely silent, produce no micro bubbles and have good emergency back ups. With dual overflows they don't work well.

So if you are interested in those overflows I would rethink the dual overflow.

Call the cc company and cancel the charge. Then, if the dispute is ruled in your favor, have Marineland come and get the tank you did not order. I would then consider the option presented by shaggss (Bean Animal) and order a tank with the dimensions you want from anyone else but Marineland.

Thank you for our response. I am planning a Herbie system. Will stick with the over flow though.
 
You don't have any valid criminal complaint here this is purely civil. Did you let them leave it? Did you ask them to take it with them and they refused?

I agree with the others, reverse the charge and let them come get it. Give them x amount of time (1 week) and if they don't, keep the tank.
 
I told them that it was the wrong tank that I paid for a double flow. and not a single. They then walked out the door sying it wa no longer made and left. I have MD and wear braces so I could not physically go out to dispute anything. I was thinking there was some fraud involved in false statements for financial gain to be investigated. I have registered a dispute with the CCC.

Not that it will necessarily help, but have you attempted to contact the Owner of the LFS? (I didn't see it mentioned). Sadly i've ran into similar situations in the past dealing with "management" at my LFS's and when i would speak to the owner, they were oblivious about the situations that their employees created such as this. Speaking directly with the owner and informing them of your potential actions might resolve the issue quicker than dealing with the employees.
 
If you ordered a 4 wheel drive truck and they shipped you a 2wd, would you accept that? Awful customer service.

If they truly couldn't order from Marineland what you asked for, they should have called you and asked if you still wanted it. If not, full refund.

Biomek has a good point. Sometimes the owner is unaware of bad employees until a customer comes forward.
 
You might just want to double check with marineland. I was actually under the impression that all of their 48" tanks come with just a single corner overflow. It's the 6 foot tanks that have the dual. Rear overflow sounds like it may have been an Aqueon tank.

Regardless, pretty crappy job on the part of the LFS.

Do you mean the BBB? Just because I am very familiar with the BBB I will tell you. They are a joke. They are a private company not affiliated with government in any way. They strong arm companies to join or else they give bad reviews on them (protection racket). Conversely, if a bad company pays them, they will put out false information that they are good. They are a waste of your time.

I also agree contact the owner. Many of those stores hire high school students as the managers and they couldn't manage their way out of a paper bag.
 
Update.
The store got my letter and has agreed to replace the wrong tank with the one I ordered. I guess I should be happy about that. Relieved is more the word. The mgr. was very nice and apologized for the mix-up and even offered to have it set up which they charge $300 for . I don't want them to do because I think set-up is part of the hobby journey.
One thing I don't have to worry about.
Something else will popup soon I know.. Murphy is always lurking
 
keeping my fingers crossed for you. That is just crazy. It is amazing to me how many businesses fail to teach their employees the importance of customer service. Hopefully whoever delivered it was reprimanded. But really HOW difficult is it to deliver an aquarium correctly configured??? Its not rocket science... I would go ahead and alert your CC company, if you haven't already, to what is going on just so you have the info on file should things go south again...

CCC--credit card company. I learned about BBB along time ago. Kind of like Angies List.
 
I'm glad they are going to make it right - one thought, when they come to collect the tank that's still there, document that everything is still in mint condition and have them sign off on that. Should they crack it or something on the way back and try to blame it on you, you will have proof it left your premesis in its original condition.

Also if they take it back before providing the new one, I think they should refund your credit card. You don't want to be held hostage if it's going to be months waiting for a new tank or something.

I hope it goes more smoothly from here on out!

Thanks for the helpful suggestions. I will be cautious but I believe that things will go forward as there are too many eyes on the page now.
