Zeovit supp. in a sps tank any experience??

I think if someone has a passion about an idea or theory and is willing to talk about there experiences it is not necessarily a info mercial but an informative faq answering session based by people who want to help out fellow aquarist .

I couldn't agree more, BUT..............when one of the people giving out the information has a financial interest in the product being discussed it becomes more marketing & thus an info-mercial.

I know it wasn't intended that way but that's the way it comes across. Free publicity if you like.........It is what it is...plain & simple.

It's also the only podcast of 60 on the site that is dedicated to one specific commercial product.

I think Zeo is a method, not a product.
Suppose if there was only one manufacturer making acrylic tank, discuss acrylic tank is info-mercial?

Zeo is a product.

You cant call it a method if you have no idea what it does.

While there is a `method' for using these zeo - it is applicable only to one specific product line, the one represented by one of the people interviewed.

Free publicity would probably be the way I'd put it.

dumb question

dumb question

I have a dumb question for all the users who posted the great results and love it comments. You claim to get good color, polyp extension, and growth. If I already have all of this without using any zeovits products what could I gain by using them? Besides a lighter wallet? I have seen many tanks as good or better than any tank using the products. I think it is all about stability and it doesn't matter how you get there. zeovits IMO isn't the cheapest or any magical solution. I add 13$ amino acids to my foods and get the same results has people spending a grand? I just don't get it?

I didn't spend a grand. Closer to $140.

Nobody is trying to sell you anything. If what you're doing works for you, that's great. Don't try to change it.

For me, I was curious about the stuff, and decided to give it a try. I discontinued the dosing after about 6 months, and took the reactor offline. I didn't really notice much difference, but after 6 weeks, I hooked the reactor up and began dosing again. I was amazed at the difference within a week. There are so many factors involved that it's impossible to isolate zeovit as the sole factor that brightened everything up, but I haven't stopped since. I only dose a fraction of what I used to dose, and it's not very expensive in my small tank.

The thing that really gets me though is that I usually have to explain myself for being curious about zeovit, trying zeovit, and enjoying my reef tank. What gives? I recently purchased a fly fishing rod that cost a small fortune... arguably, I could catch just as many fish on a $200 rod. But everyone sees it and says "Hey nice rod".

Different strokes is what it comes down to. I guess I started smoking a liong time ago for the same reason... because I was curious. It was easier to quit smoking though. :D The results were much better without the cigarettes. :)

thanks

thanks

thank for the reply. My question was for real and not to be sarcastic. I just don't know what I could expect from trying it. The reason I ask is just that curiosity.

As far as the fishing rod analogy. I think that's quite a stretch however. You know what you can do with that fishing rod and what is expected of it. IE..you would know if it were not working correct. Nobody can clearly tell you what to expect from zeovit or if it is even the cause of success if you get some success?

I felt much like Ewan, curiosity, some interest in trying something a little different. I made the comment on my response above in this thread that there are many ways to achieve great coloration, polyp extension, and low nutrients, more along the lines of natural seawater params...I just felt inclined to try the zeo method and I have been very pleased. I have spent no where near 3/4 of a grand to use zeo, maybe a couple of hundred in supplements over the year and a couple of hundred for a better zeo reactor.

imbuggin, in response to your question about why should you try zeo, it seems that you have no reason to try the zeo method as you are happy with your present results and don't feel inclined to try zeo, so there really is no reason to do so. I don't think any zeo users or non-users would try to convince you otherwise :D. I recognize the history, I have read hundreds of threads against zeo and understand others perspectives. I respect people that respect others and don't flame. We all come from different perspectives and we all decide to do this and that for our own reasons, I leave it at that and happily admire all gorgeous tanks regardless of methodology. There are clearly many factors that contribute to the overall health and well being of our reef tanks...My tank is the same. I can say that I am happy with the results of using zeo for close to a year and will continue to do so.

The podcast=info-mercial

So how exactly would you have done it differently? It was explaining how zeo works and trys to dispell many of the common myths about it. What else would you expect it to do, not tell you about the product and what it does, and how it works? I dont think anywhere in that whole thing did it say, COME BUY ZEOVIT PRODUCTS FROM US AT *******!!!

I had 384.00 in the basic 4 but I bought 4 bags of zeolith and the largest container of all 4 supplements...... this is why it was so expensive, I also dropped a couple hundred in a zeo reactor... so I guess it was closer to 600.00 but I should have enough supplementation for a year!!!! Hey by the way you zeo users how are you adding the supplements?? Zeobak, zeofood, zeostart??? Do you add it directly to the reactor media on the inside of the reactor or just add it to your sump like any other supplement???

Did they address the extreme aluminum levels released from the zeolites?

As many may already know I've followed these threads since the start. I don't remember reading any posts with links to study's done on Al released by ZEOvit media or zeolites in general. Nor do I remember reading that a user had problems with soft corals associated with Al as reported with Al based PO4 reducing media.

slojmn,

Very well put.

I use Zeo as well and have for about two years. I am very please with the results. For the longest time I battled brown corals and lack of growth no matter what I did. I decided to give it a try when everyone thought It was joke. Now people that see my yank ask what I have been doing to increase the colors. :) I really like to pick up brown frags from other locals and put it in my zeo tank and invite them over to see what they look like after a month or so. They usually can not believe its the same frag!

There were a number of discussions on it. More were focused on other metals. I had checked some math with Randy and he didn't want to get involved due to the heated issues but my math was right. You were on this thread and no one responded to the math:

http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/s...25&highlight=zeovit and aluminum&pagenumber=2

I have no idea if it matters as there may be another additive that some how removes it/chelates it or ?? If you acclimate the tank to it, there may be better results to the aluminum based phosphate media's. I'm actually looking for a theory on it to understand better.

This is the first time I have ever heard of it as well...not saying it hasnt been discussed, but I certainly have never seen it brought up.

As to be expected there was much speculation on what might or might not be happening. I think there were at least a couple other theories on what was released (rust).

If I was running a reef podcast site like that one I wouldn't have used any specific reef product as a topic about what it does or claims to do. It doesn't fit the agenda that has been set in the last 60 pod casts.

If the site compared & contrasted products daily it would be fine.

Personally, I could care less either way. I was just making an observation on how it comes across.

My friend has used Zeo for over 1 1/2 yrs. & he loves it. I don't see anything special about the product or it's results in health or color comparing my system to his.

They're different & we're both happy.

Releasing

Releasing

Did they address the extreme aluminum levels released from the zeolites?

This is questionable item. Remember there are over 150 different Zeolites (both natural and synthetic). The most common release items in the various Zeolites are Sodium, Potassium or Calcium(even Nitrogen), yes some release Aluminum but how do you know there are one of the 5 zeolites, and why do you think KZ would choose one that does?

The only Zeolite I have personal experience with is Clinoptilolite which we use in some treatment plants to remove aqueous ammonia, it also tends to pull out heavy metals. It releases Sodium and Potassium as it sieves the ammonia (no Al btw). <- I'd bet money this is one of the ones in Zeovit just because it's so useful, thouse in saltwater it's ammonia sieving numbers do drop alot, probably where bacteria comes in.

Unless you know exactly what Zeolites are present in Zeovit, it's merely an illogical assumption (unless you just want to claim the system doesn't work) to conclude they decided to use ones that release Al.

I've used Zeo for 9 months now and the debate isn't if it works (it does reduce nutrients) but HOW (which I think isn't to hard to figure out) and IF you need all the other little supplements once you're past the basic 4.

Read the link I posted. The aluminum is measured but not until day 4 IIRC and then later. This is on their rocks. I broke it down in the link I posted with some reference links. It may very well be removed by something or by acclimation it isn't as harmful as many think.

Most tended to concentrate on other heavy metals but that one just slapped me in the face and since so many others were concentrating on the others I focused on the aluminum release. Although that may be like worrying about a scratch on a car that's already totaled.

There's obviously some great looking results from the methodology but since I'm a "don't add unless you test" type, I need to break it down and at least have a valid theory.
