I was just wondering if anybody has any info on the actual collection places of some of the zoas we keep. I have never been able to find much information on this.

for example - darth mauls - they seem to melt on everyone, are they a deepwater species, could they have been collected from a more temperate environment? does anybody know

or does coloration have anything to do with depth etc?

if you look at Japanese deepwaters, they have a ton of variety of colors... they have a diverse amounth of looks, patterns and colors..

I've been all over the island of Oahu and have never once seen a patch of zoas deeper than 10 feet. It is also a known fact that corals of any kind produce these bright colors to protect themselves from UV rays. The deeper you go the less colors you will see.

With that said, Japanese Deepwater is a marketing scheme. With colors that bright there is no way they are deep water. Although at 5 feet deep I can still breathe... I have Japanese friends that would be underwater at 5 feet. :)

Got any idea where they are coming from? They have such vibrant colors.
