10' Pond Build

If you want an out-of-water area to look natural, it might help to just make it basically a few lumps of rock with sand on top. That's what you see at beaches, and I think simpler things tend to look more natural.

After giving it some more thought, I'm going to do the "island" in the 300 gallon tub once I get it installed rather than in the pool. Am planning for that to be a mangrove/haddoni anemone set up anyway, so it will make a lot more sense visually.

I did pick up a new camera over the weekend, so I'll be able to get some better pictures. I'm still working out how to use it so these aren't the best, but it's a start.

Closer pic of my Naso unicornis. Growing fast, and still getting on well together.

Coris venusta. Adjusted very well to the pool after QT. Will take myisis from my hand.

This pic turned out kind of dingy looking, but I wanted to show how my Cetoscarus bicolor has changed color a bit from bright orange to more of a brownish orange. Starting the transition to initial phase maybe?

One more...

On a sad note, I lost the larger of the two queen angels this past week. Showed no symptoms that anything was wrong, was eating, and swimming normally the night before. My wife and I were pretty gutted when we found her at the bottom of the pool the next morning. She didn't have so much as a mark on her. All of the other fish are behaving normally, and I'm really at a loss as to what could have been the cause.

A couple more...

Sailfin Tang (Zebrasoma velifer), doliatus rabbitfish, chromis

Assiasi trig, tangs, chromis. The original 12 chromis are still doing well. They keep to a shoal for the most part, especially in the mornings when they are in a tight group.

Canon EOS 60D with a couple different lenses. I lost my previous phone this past summer (didn't realize that I still had it in my pocket until I was half way between boat and water), and about 2 years worth of pictures along with it. Decided it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a real camera that I can use for just about anything. I almost grabbed a GoPro while I was there, but decided that I should try to figure out one piece of technology at a time.

I had almost the same experience this summer except it was with both my camera and my insuling pump(im diabetic) in the phillipines. was on a snorkle tour and had my insulin pump in my pocket and totally forgot. It barely got wet but it was enough to stop working... Had to rush home the next day. Was very disappointed since I had been wanting to see some reefs for some time.

My phone did survive though haha.

Also This thread is great, have been following it for some time and your pond really looks great!

Yikes!! Almost had the same experience in Belize a few years ago with my younger brother (also uses an insulin pump). We were doing a snorkeling trip at shark-ray alley. Just before he hopped in, he paused and got a this goofy look on his face - shocked, worried, and relived all at the same time! Luckily, he realized that he had forgotten to take it out of his pocket before going overboard! Would have been especially bad timing, as we were down there for his wedding which was a few days later. I'm glad to hear that you were able to get home without incident, and hopefully you will have another opportunity to go again soon!

I appreciate the compliment too btw!

Oh that would have been bad, glad to hear thing worked out for you and your family as well. I'll actually be heading to thailand so hopefully I can find some place to snorkle. Havent done any reserch yet though. Needless to say I will be taking two of them this time :-)

I meant that I personally don't even like to stick my arm in my tank if I don't have to. With a pool as your tank putting on a wetsuit or trunks or whatever to get into the pool anytime you need to get something off the bottom/middle will become a huge PITA

If its in his home he has no need to put anything on

sorry to hear that, i hate when that happens :( worst part of the hobby imho

Sorry about the queen... it was the newer one, yes? I dunno, sometimes fish, even with all the QT and care and whatnot, just up and die on you. Really does stink. :(

Yeah, was the newer of the two. She got through QT without incident, and never lost a bit of her appetite with prazi or cupramine (as I've experienced when treating many other fish). She was in the pool for several weeks with no signs or symptoms that something could be amiss. As much as I hate losing fish to something within my control, losing one to some unknown factor IMO is worse, as there is little to be learned from, and ultimately corrected in the future. But yes, I agree, mysterious losses do happen from time to time in spite of our best efforts to ensure otherwise.
