100 degrees tomorrow....

I killed ALL that Coral!
The heat wave is coming. First one for me since going MH with no chiller. I'm curious what tricks you folks use to keep temps down.

Anti heat strategy so far. :beachbum:
-MH only on in the morning
-fans blowing on DT and sump
-A couple frozen two liter bottles ready to be dropped in the sump

Jeff, I had my 1st floor A/C thermostat set at 76 degrees. I had my window open when the halides are on with a fan in the window to exhaust most of the heat at night. You can leave the cover of the hood out. I had to deal with 5 x 400 watt radiums then so you should be ok with the 250s.

its the simple things that i like...running the whole house fan in the morning as long as you can and keeping the lights off hot days :).

Finally switched to LEDs after a year long personal delay. Took down my 2 MH's and my T5 setup this past weekend. Should be interesting to see what this summer brings as far as energy usage, temperature control, dependency on a chiller, and acclimation of the animals to the new lighting conditions, etc....
Cheers!

Just want to add the upgrade from the AI sol to hydra 52 is out now for $299 I believe. It has 10 more LEDs than the radion and runs lower at 135watts. It is comparable to the 400watt radium. Easy to control with an apex awm module. I have had it since December and never had any issue. I only run the 400watt radiums from 9pm til midnight. I am thinking of running it only for 2 hours per night now. Never lost color or growth.

Biggest thing I found is opening up the house for a minute in the morning while I am getting ready.

Home made DIY cooler plumed into sump area. Small canopy fan and the controller set to turn off the MH at 80 degrees

Whole house fan

Whole house fan

running leds ....but still use the whole hose fan.....62 in mine this morning....no a/c until at least 4-5 pm.....to maintain 76f.....

Anyone with tank inside the house with ac on shouldn't be hard to maintain lower temp. My tank in the garage that's facing west (super hot) with no fans or anything hit 85 yesterday, and everything is still doing good. Going out today to grab a couple clip on fans ;) don't want to plumb in the chiller if I don't really have to.
Happy reefing!!!

I keep my chiller online at all times, doesn't come on much, but it's kinda like buying insurance to me. It's there if needed
