1000 Gallon Build- Here we go- Lots of Pictures

I don't think the scorpion will pose any greater threat than another critter being digested by your system. Whatever venom the scorpion contains will be dispersed throughout your whole system and should not affect the inhabitants. Many scorpion stings are similar to a bee sting... not like a blue ring octopus or anything like that. Just pull it out of the water with tongs and be on your way.

I think that the dilution will not allow for anything to happen. However, carbon wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to run. However, that is still a dead organism and should be removed from the system IMHO

Scorpion is gone- chewed up by the powerheads. I wish I would have grabbed it but it got sucked in pretty quick.

Regardless, there was no ill effects when I woke up this morning.

On a brighter note- with the combination of my overhead exhaust fan and a couple of small fans that I strategically placed in the hood, my tank temp is now 81 degrees and stable. Totally fine with this temp and likely I can get it to drop another degree or so over the next few days.

No chiller will be placed on my system which is what I had originally planned after looking at Silef's system.

the dosing system is in place, the tank temps are stable in 110 degree phx weather. My corals are starting to perk up again.

Hmmm....might just have to go on a shopping spree and pick up some new fish and corals this weekend!!

Great to hear. Now if you put a slightly larger fan on your light rack or on the top of the tank so it's blowing across the surface of the water, you would be amazed at how you can control a tanks temperature via evaporative cooling.

If you copy/paste this gooble-da -speak in the advanced section, it will also show in graph form.

Im not using Apex to control my lighting so this doesnt work for me. Im using Reeflink.

just keep an eye on the water level/ top off. the fans will make the water evaporate faster.

Not an issue. Am using Reef Genesis for water changes and top off. Ive got 100 gallon RO holding tank that once it gets down to 20 gallons, it refills.

Yup- thats exactly what I am doing. I also noticed that my UV filter raises the tank temp about .5 degrees. As I dial in the temp further, I might put a fan that blows directly on the UV when its on. Right now Im running UV at night only. I did that to get the temp under control- will have to dial in the correct amount of time that its on. I was running uv 24/7- not sure what the pros/cons of 24/7 vs 12 hours is with UV.

Temp- 81.1
Alk- 7.3 using Hanna checker
Calcium -390

Need to up the numbers a bit. Also need to check magnesium. Need to get a new test kit for that.

Anyone have a good form I can use to keep track of parameters? Something I can print out and keep on a clipboard to monitor water parameters.

Thx

There's a way to log and track them on the Apex fusion screen.

Ahhh- good to know. Thx

I just use excel. I track by date. I keep record of changes in additive levels and additions to tanks equipment. It gives me a clearer at a glance record of what I've done and its effect on the total system. The loggers with apex are good at seeing what's been dosed and measured but, mixed with all dosings and water changes.

I was doing a water change last week and had the same thing happen.. The scorpion must have crawled into the power head I use to mix my saltwater. I decided to just use the water anyways.. No I'll effects #arizonaproblems lol

I have an Aquarium log that I found on here last year. It is an excel spreadsheet with many options and macros pre-set that are extremely helpful. That being said, I use a mac and the file opens in numbers (apples version of excel). A lot of the macros still worked but some did not. I deleted a lot of the content, added much more that fits my needs including a cost tracker. It should open up in either excel or numbers just fine. You can easily print out the parameters tab as well and use it as a hard copy like you want. I tried attaching it to this post but i have no idea how besides the little paperclip icon, which says "invalid file" when attached. If you send me your email, I'll gladly send you a blank copy. You can also email me at ddanis60@hotmail.com. I'll give it a try one more time using tapatalk, as thats much more simple.

Edit: nope, tapatalk is great for pics and vids, but that's all.

Pictures or video? Fts

I'll grab an updated video/photo this weekend. Am picking up a few pieces of coral this weekend to replace the ones I lost in the heat wave. Tank temp fluctuates between 80.6 and 81.4 the last week. If I leave my fans on longer I can get it to drop more but I trying to time the fans with my lighting to see where everything sits.

Yeah - no ill effects on my side here either. Damn scorpions! I thought we were done with them when we moved into our new house.

All this planning and work, nobody thought to use fans inside the hood?

Please read previous posts. There is a large exhaust fan that was installed but they forgot to hook it up. It is now hooked up and working to control the heat.

So yes, somebody did think to use a fan in the hood.
