Thanks a lot MalawianDude. I have still yet to hear from anyone about the type of clown goby that I have. It would be awesome if it was a rare one :)

Here are some more pics.

Is that tonga branch LR?

I will look into that clown goby see what i can find out for ya, what was it sold to you as?

I got it from a store called Big Al's and they just had it labeled as a "Red Clown Goby". When I saw it I jut had to buy it, because they have always been a favorite fish of mine and I knew I have never seen one like this.

P.S. Are you talking about my rock?

Hey there I got one quick question. I just bought a devils hand and I was wondering how long till it should come out before I should get worried

What lights is everyone running over their 10 Gallons? Anyone in the 400 watt MH range? I am about to put 250W HQI over mine.

I want to thank the starter of this thread (as well as the posters that followed) for showing me what can be done with a 10 gal tank. I'm not new to the hobby (had a successfull and healthy 30 gal. for about 7 years before getting married) but I never thought of setting up a small tank until I got my Daughter a small freshwater setup. That setup has been long gone but she's been asking for the fish again and I thought I'd get a small salt water tank set up. I didn't even think I could make a small reef tank using 10 gal. but seeing the pictures you have all posted, you sure have changed my mind and I am definitely going to get this thing going. I do have questions and one of them is where can I get lighting for the reef small (and safe) enough for the tank? Also, I plan to go skimmer-less and my main filtration will come from a canister filter.
Please, keep this thread going as it's a DEFINITE inspiration to me for this project.
After the 10 is complete, I'll get working on my long-planned 90 in the basement!

Thanks!

as far as back grounds go my wife painted a puffer on one side and a lionfish on the other

Rustypixel great to hear that. On my 10gal I have the 96watt coralife pc's. Before setting up my tank, I look around to see what the majority of the people had for light on there 10gals. As you may notice I found the majority of people have the 96watt light. Although there are some exceptions I find that this amount of light for such a small tank is perfect.

nanoreef58 what do you mean by BB's?

Rustypixel: hellolights.com has a great selection of lighting for a 10 gallon tank. they've got some good DIY parts as well if you are a DIY kinda person...

BB is bare-bottom tank. i dont think ive ever seen a BB nano tank.

I've read the name "Big Als" a few times on these boards, does anyone have a link? I'd like to start shopping around for some lighting. I plan to empty and clean the tank today, get the back painted (midnight blue looks like a really nice color), get the crushed coral in the tank, and get the canister filter and salt water up and running today. And if I get the chance, I might get some uncured Fiji live rock to start the cycle process. I believe I can do all of this without the lights. Man, after seeing the pictures everyone posted, I'm so pumped to get this project started.

what'd you say? :furious:

god only knows that the sandpeople & the BB'ers have had it out many times on these boards, so i'll keep my thoughts on sand & nanos to myself, and just say this...BB, DSB, SSB it really doesn't matter, if your husbandry is good you'll have a nice setup, if not you won't, doesn't matter what's on the bottom of your tank.:D

Well, I had a busy day. I decided to call out sick from work today (cough, cough...) and painted the back of the tank (royal blue) I'm glad the stuff dired very quickly as I went off to an LFS to get some rock, sand and pre-mixed water (yes, I took the lazy way out). The guy at the LFs (I've never been there before) was really insisting that I buy some pre-packaged/bagged live sand that had bacteria pre-colonized. He said that using this stuff would allow me to put fish in there today. I don't know if any of that is true, but I just bought some regular live sand and about 17 Lbs. of Fiji live rock... oh, and 5 Scarlet crabs. I plan on letting the tank run its course and when i'm sure the cycle is complete I'll add a fish or even two. I plan to get the 96 watt light fixture from Hellolights. It looks really nice and will suit my needs nicely.
I'd like to upload some pictures but I'm not sure I know how. Perhaps someone can give me the run down for picture uploading?

Will continue to keep posted.

that is a pretty awesome tank, never seen a 10 gal in wall before :D Do you have pics of the lion and puffer that are painted on it? I could see a little of the puffer and it was really cute :D
