Jer-
I have good reason to suspect ByTor might have gotten his echinata from Playfair (who got it from me). I'm very interested. Can you direct me to pix of it in your aquarium?
captain , didnt you start a little early ? i saw you felling pretty loose last night ! well i hope your head feels good 5 or 6 aspirins always work for me .
Gary, that is awesome! I always love learning about the lineage of corals. I obtained a tiny (1/4") frag of this coral from Bytor at a frag swap in Binghamton four years ago. When I heard he was coming, I checked out his RC gallery and saw a picture of this awesome coral that he simply listed as "My favorite". He was not inclined to sell any of it but I hounded him and traded $60 worth of frags for that tiny little nub. He didn't know what it was but thought it was possibly a tort which he termed "killer tort". After it grew out into a colony, it became evident that it was not a tortuosa. I kept researching it as it got larger and it appears identical to pictures of acropora echinata. I don't have a good current photo but I found this one from Frag Farmers: http://www.fragfarmer.com/Fragfarmer-Echinata-p-584.html
Anyway, I would be honored for you to have a frag of this if indeed it is a long lost offspring. So I will bring you a frag for free, though it won't be huge. If you still have frag of your famous Red Table, that would be great, but if not thyen no worries. I look forward to seeing yuou. I should be there by no later than one if not a bit earlier.
sounds like a plan- I'll bring a frag of the red table.
I haven't seen Tim (Bytor) on any reef boards lately. I need to talk to him about this echinata.
