So what was the very first species that got you started with your first tank? Mine was the standard occelaris clown pair in a 24g nano cube. After that was a royal gramma, who eventually grew to be the largest royal gramma Ive ever seen :eek2:. Good times.... good times :spin3:

I had a pair of percula clowns in a 29 gallon biocube.

My money would be on 50% of people started with some sort of clown

Somewhat unimaginatively, a Yellow Stripe Maroon - had him (or her) for almost 12 years, still my most long lived fish!

It was 1975. 20 gallon with under gravel filter. State on the art back then....
2 Domino damsels, 2 Three stripe damsels and a Yellowtail. I was in heaven!
Such a step up from drab colored freshwater!

I just got into saltwater and am currently rocking a 20 gallon tall. my first fish is either going to be a couple ocellaris clowns or a yasha goby/randall pistol shrimp combo. I'll let you folks know when I decide!

Damsels, of course, because that's what you cycled with back then :o After that, a pair of tomato clowns and a yellow tang.

My first saltwater fish was a puffer that my grandparents bought me at the age of ten. I was so excited to take him home and put it in the goldfish bowl.:worried: My next saltwater didn't come for a few more years.

Same. Except I had just one tomato; not a pair. Dad made me get rid of it once it started drawing blood on my (5 year old) hand. :angryfire:

Started in 2001 with a standard Perfecto 55 gallon that housed one false Perc clown, 3 blue green Chromis, and a yellow eyed Bristle Tooth tang.

Started off with a yellowtail damsel and a bluefin damselfish that were given to me along with a 35g hex tank. The bluefin was the first to be traded in because he was just plain mean. Traded the yellowtail in when I upgraded to my current 75g because even though he had not bothered anyone I just didn't want to risk having a terror and then trying to catch him in the 75g reef. lol
