another question...
can i drill 2 holes in the bottom and 3 in the back?

I agree with old reefer. If you are doing the 250 watt. I would get a tuze if you intend on SPS.

No sump? I would think that you would want to do a sump (10 gallon maybe) with just some sand and LR. Put your skimmer on that and have a baffle that would fit a filter sock setup. Then you wouldn't even need a fuge cuz you'd have one down below.

Sorry posted while you were posting.

I would think that if you did that many holes, to have a professional glass shop do it for ya.

That set up sounds awesome. You'll have some heat issues so make sure you're prepared to deal with it. At least have a few fans running across. But you never really know what the temp will be until you've got it all running.

nice, but id rather go with a power head then a closed loop... gawd i hate closed loops they can be quite noisy if not set up correctly and very hard to trouble shoot to find the cause of the noise. just my opionion tho :) good luck bro.

Will this be in a canopy?

yes it will be in a canopy with 2 fans blowing out of it for circulation:strooper:

You were easily swayed to add a sump. Why not add a 20G sump? or 30G?

More is better :) !

i just said 10 cause I have a unused 1 somewhere but i could do another 20 long just as easily

I think the closed loop is a great idea. I'm designing another tank to improve on my current setup's cosmetics. I hate having equipment in the display! I'm sure tunze streams work well, but I think they're an eye sore. The whole setup sounds like it's got really good potential! Just my .02 though. :)

probably not those 2 mag drives are going to generate alot of heat

they will both be external if it changes anything. i could do another brand of external pump also.

I would definitely use another type of pump for the closed loop. Mag drives are not built to be used externally for saltwater. I would use an iwaki. They are very nice pumps and will last forever. Eheims are awesome, too.
