210 AGA RR Project

Well I finally got some tome to post a few up dates.

Hi Typhon

I'am using a Sequence 750 series SEQ-3600 SW pump
and using the headloss calculator I figured about 2450 gallons
per hour. I'll push the most I can back to the tank and the rest
goes to the sump, two 1/2 inch locklines to the refugium a small feed to the Calcium Reactor and one line back to the sump for any extra
flow, so pump will be ran wide open with no throttling back the pressure.

Hi Zephrant

I thought about the braided hose and it would be a 5 minute
job to switch it over to it if needed, I tried the current setup a
couple of times taking it off and putting it back on and it was
pretty easy, thanks for the suggestion.

Well heres a pic of some more plumbing.

You can't really tell from these pics but everything can come
apart in sections and be reinstalled fairly easy,I can't belive
how much stuff is going to be under this stand when it's done.
and a big sump doesn't help it out:D
I should be ready for a test run this week end and shake down
any bugs in the system.

nice setup.iam getting ready to plumb everything to my basement.iam using a rubbermaid container for a sump and refugium, but the bottom of the rubbermaid is not flat any ideas how to install baffles for bubble traps anyone?

Hey z28cam

I really like the sump Andy made for me!
I'am pretty good at making things, but not much experience
with plastics. It wasn't cheap but with something that holds
80 gallons when full I didn't want to take any chances and let
the pros take over. It should hold about 60 gallons when its running.

Well it was a busy weekend, mounted power panel, Tunze streams
PHC controller.Filled tank and sump with regular water and ran it for
2 days. no leaks whew! I did have to adjust drain tube tees in to
the sump, but no biggie, not really sure about the headloss calculator?
I ran 1.5" dia. pipe up to UV sterilizer and from there I ran 1.0" dia.
to bottom of tank, calculator only allows for one pipe dia?
But the flow to me seemed tremendous.I was also impressed with
the streams and controller, coolest power heads I've ever seen running!
Neat toy,, HE HE
Today I drained the tank and sump, put sand in tank and sump and getting ready to start finial filling, also put all new filters including
R.O. membrane on water filter. Did notice one small problem, will
have to wire new power cords to ballast boxes, they were about 1 foot
short :(
This week will finish mounting PH controller, ORP controller,
Ozone generator, air dryer and pump and Osmolator,CR reactor is ready to go just waiting for some fittings coming tomorrow.
Hopefully by next weekend I'll be up and running.

Very nice system. Can't wait to see it running. I am planning on buying a Barraquatics skimmer when I get home. Please post and let us know how it works for you when you get it running and pulling junk out of the water.

Hi toddlaco
Just wanted to say you guys do a kick a-- job!
My son was in the first guys into Baghdad at the start of the war.

Well its half filled! did'nt realize that it takes 10 days of running a
new RO filter to fully hydrate it to get full out put. I'am also on
a well system so TDS are high 480 ppm, and with a well you have
lower water pressure and cold water 52 deg. everything working
against me. anyway hers a shot of the tank so far.

Well this last week has been busy, tank was finally filled on 7-16-05
ran tank for acouple of days with skimmer and found the micro bubble
problem. Next I reversed the protein skimmer 180 deg. in the sump and also made a couple of diffusers for the drain lines, used 3 inch pvc
pipe with 3 inch to 2 inch reducer on top and 3/8 inch slots buy 1-1/2
deep on bottom. This has reduced them tremendously, still have a few
bubbles but I'am going to let it run for awhile to let it settle out.

looking at the picture of the sump with th skimmer in there ,The skimmer should be at the other end where the water drains in to or maybe i over looked the picture.

Hi asmodeus

Yes the drains go into the skimmer area, the fuge is in front and the baffles and return area is in back and on right side of sump.

Well heres the first water parameters tested

Temp. 79.5
Salinity 1.026
PH 7.9
Alk 176 ppm 9.8 DKH 3.5 meq/l
Mag 1275
Cal 380 ppm

Started up calcium reactor today just to see how it works and
adjust it before I receive the LR

Evil-

My tap water/fertilizer here in central IL is about 350. The membrane knocks it down to 25, but it still burns through the DI media. Check out a refillable DI kit if you haven't already. Air, Water, & Ice has a 4 refill one for $40-$50.

During the winter I also run the tap water through a heat exchanger before sending it to the RODI. The inlet tube is about 25' and is coiled inside a 5gal bucket full of water, a small powerhead, and a heater. With the heater at 85F, the water going into the filter is around 70F.

Hey bsackamano

Great idea. but I read a tip about the bucket with coil of tubing and
heater on Melev's Reef site last week sometime, when it was running full time I could only keep it 70degs with 2 heaters, I think they where
100 watts each down the road I'll buy 1 bigger heater and I defiantly
need the pressure pump on this setup to. Thanks again!
