240g tank w/fish room build

If you really want it in wall I would just do it ...its going to be there for many years and it will always bug you ..yeah the cabinet is great but you will have more room in your house with in wall and the noise will be gone

That's how I feel and I think u r right. If I make it inwall I will do some kind of removable panel above the tank from the house so I have access from both sides of the tank.

I just like the ability to see more of the tank with inwall you lose so much visibility of the tank! Just my two cents! And your already used to having tanks there!

+1.
Also look at ALL that extra work because of that wall being a bearing wall....

I'm still working on lighting options. I am thinking about going so many different ways

The tank is 72x30

These r at the top of the list right now.

Option 1 $1700
I'm thinking 2 mH either 250w or 400w with either 3 kessil 360w or 1 reefbrite blue xho front and back

Option 2 $1200
Ati power modual 10 bulb with 1 reefbright blue xho in the front for sure maybe 1 more in back if needed.

Option 3 johns idea 3 radions and 2 mH $2200

Option 4. 2 MH 4 t5 1 reef brite blue xho $900

Any thoughts one way or another? The mH I already have so I don't have that costs in any options

Hey Roger I like the halide kessil combo but now having a 72" tank maybe throw in 3 250w halides and 2 kessils.... My tank with 2 250 halides 9" off the water didn't get the coverage I needed the ends were really dark.

I currently use 1 mH over my sps tank it's 4ft long. Hung 16 inches over the tank.i too have dark edges a bit if mH is only light running. But I do get a nice 3ft spread so I'm thinking if hung the same hight I will be good. Also remember the other lighting will cover the rest of the tank and eliminate the dark edges. I missed out on the 10 bulb ati fixture and since they don't make them anymore I guess that option is out. I was leaning that way cause I have an 8bulb ati with led stip on my frag tank and the sps love it.

So looking like 2 mH with 4 t5 and led stip is my main choice as of now. I have months till I need to decide. I'm hoping to get the final coat of mud on the drywall today and maybe have it painted by the weekend.

In your situation I would go 4 but add another blue LED strip.

This is of course assuming you have your fish room really climate controlled. If you don't, I would consider running primarily LEDs to reduce heat.

That's what I'm leaning towards. The room will be climate controlled. I also will have a chiller on this system in case of power outage. I agree on the led strip but the reefbrite xho 72 inch are almost $600 each.

Why not get DIY strips from build my LED or something?

Done with wall. Moving on to clearing out room and electrical!
