New Fish

I have 7 fish.
Blueface angel
majestic angel
coral beauty
purple tang
yellow tang
hippo tang (may be selling him not crazy about his behavior, just swims up and down in the corner)
oscelaris clown

powder blue would look awesome in there

I think he would like it, but he has been alone for awhile in the 220 gal here. By the way...I want to show you the scrapers I use. They are awsome and you would LOVE these. Don't buy those cheapo (but costly) Kent scrapers. Buy these at Home Depot in the wallpaper/paint section! Guaranteed NOT to EVER bend and scratch the glass!!!

Well I ordered a few things today to forward my build. My next two goals are to improve my lighting setup to a modern high efficiency metal halide setup and work toward semi-automation of the water changes. As far as lighting, I have the lumenarc reflectors, but everything else was temporary just to get the tank going. The chinese bulbs suck and magnetic ballasts are gas guzzlers if you know what I mean. I plan on going to XM 20k Bulbs powered with Lumatek e-ballasts. I also will be getting rid of the wooden temporary light rack and upgrading to aluminum. Tax money can get here soon enough.

Back to the things I ordered today. To continue to semi-automate my water changes. I ordered a "y" fitting, a ball valve and a float valve for the saltwater reservoir. I will set up the saltwater the same as the fresh RO except I will have the ball valve that will allow me to control when the RO unit recognizes the float valve. I am seriously debating on a JBL ATO. I know there is no such thing as a truly failsafe ATO, but the JBL shuts off after 3 minutes if it is still running. That seems like it would work.

Any thoughts?

I love my JBJ ATO, knock on wood, I have never had any problems with it in the 4 years I have had it.

I just found out it has auto shutoff that has to be manually reset. That is genius and is close to failsafe as you are going to get.

Found out my tax return is going to be much larger than I thought. This build should see some new action! I really want to focus on lighting and water changes.

Well the crappy temporary wood light rack is no more. Here is the permanent new solid aluminum rack.

I added a float valve to the salt reservoir, so now I do not have to monitor both of them when they fill, and I dont have to move pumps or use buckets! I put a shut off on the salt side since I obviously not want it to fill every time I take some water out. Especially once I get the salinty right. So I can turn valve on when I am ready, then go down when it is full and shut it off. Dont have to worry about it spilling over!

I also replace all the filters in the RO/DI unit. Back to 0 TDS!

Just finished reading the whole thread. Its made me more patient with mine. Looks very nice!

Yeah, patience is the key. Just do a little at a time, what ever you can afford. I dont have anything on Nanook, it took him 6 years to get his system up and going.

How's the powder blue tang doing?

He's great. He eats very good and gets along well with the clownfish. SS had him for over a month before I got him so I felt pretty comfortable buying him. He's colored up a little since then so I'm very pleased. He likes to flash his colors and swim up to me when I'm near the tank. (thinks I'm going to feed every time.)

well i must admit i have been using reef central for about a week and just finished reading your build i did not sign up because i could not be botherd but i had to sign up today say this to you
