27 clowns in the same tank 27 months~Thread of the Month

hey mona...see your tank is still doing awesome. I talked to you a couple years ago about doing similar setup with my 220, ended up moving and then buying a house, so I still haven't done it yet. Now I'm thinking about doing something similar on a smaller scale with a 75/90. Do you still recommend I get the same number of baby clowns. You had given me info on who to get them from and I still plan on using her. Thanks for your time

Hi Mona,
Did you receive my PM from last week? My batch of ocellaris are arriving on Wednesday and I am hoping to hear from you before then. Thanks!

Hi Mona,
Thanks for your detailed and helpful PM which I had somehow overlooked in my mailbox. I really appreciate all of your advice.

Hi Justin,
I had previously recommended more than 20 for your 220 gallon and selling the excess if you find that you have too many. Generally I would say not to add more than two clowns unless you start with some that have been raised together in a single clutch such that they work out their pecking order when they are really young. Also, I would not recommend three or four in one tank. Other than that, I would just be guessing as I only know what worked for me and have no idea of 5 or more would work for someone else, though I would be interested in hearing other experiences.

However, having raised Clarkii and True Percs, I would say that the Percs huddle in that swimming ball formation and Clarkii do not. I see no problems with keeping as many Percs together as your filter can handle. It would just be a big growout tank.

As far as a source, I got my clowns from Robin aka Fingerwrinkles (his RC handle). I would still recommend him as a possible source. You can also check the Breeding forum here for other possible sources.

Thanks for the PM. It is the preferred method to contact me for general questions about your tank and thus keeping on topic in this thread.

thanks for the reply...yes, fingerwrinkles is who I talked to...and was happy with our discussions, I think I'm gonna do black false percs. I'm just now starting to collect equipment and such and if you would like I'll keep you in the loop once I introduce the fish. Thanks again

Welcome to Reef Central. You should post in the regular forum or search the anemone forum for possible solutions to your problem.

Hi Mona,

I have a question about breeding Percs. I have heard that raising the tank temperature and feeding a high fat food like black worms, will initiate breeding. Do you do anything like this, or is the food that you prepare enough?

Thanks,

Jerry

Beautiful........... May I ask what size tank? I'm still trying to determine the size tank to start this hobby. I'm thing 150 or 180.

I do not raise the temperature nor feed black worms. My Aquacontroller II is set at 80 degrees but it does fluctuate plus or minus 4 degrees during the day/season. My food is the homemade mix following Eric Borneman's Coral food recipe (or as close as I can get it).

Ok so I have looked and I am amazed as to how F'in sweat your tank looks. With that said I have a question for you. What do you feed your babies as I have just aquired 2 that are .25 inch long. I really hope they will mate one day. Oh ya they are housed in my 12 Gallon Nano Cube which has one Watchman goby and a bunch of coral. A Nano Koralia ciruculation pump and the regular powerhead in the rear of the tank. No filter just live rock in the back. Please help.

Check out the threads at the top of this forum. Particularly this one:

I feed babies the same thing as adults except smaller pieces and more often.
