27 clowns in the same tank 27 months~Thread of the Month

In a dive on a scenic reef in HI (had to walk 2 miles to get there...worth it more than I can say!) I saw a few dozen B&W clowns on the same massive anemone. Not at all unnatural for them to cohabitate in such numbers. Definitely a cool sight, in the ocean or aquarium. Nice job.

any update? are you seeing less aggression since you started feeding more?

Yes Please~!

I plan on having somewhat the same setup but instead of percula's, different pairs of all the designer and regular clowns. This has given me validation that it is possible!

Yes, it seems that regular flooding the tank with defrosted frozen food (as opposed to just relying on the automatic feeder) makes for more peaceful fish healthier fish.

This thread in no way gives you validation to mix different pairs of clownfish.
Please read the thread.

Cool. Tnx for the update. How often do you feed them frozen? and do you still run your auto feeders? do you have pellets or flakes or both in the feeder?

BTW, I noticed in the pic above that some of the BTA's are pink'ish. are they bleaching or that's their natural color? if they're bleaching, what do you think is the cause?

Wow, I just got finished reading that you can't have more than one pair of clownfish in the same tank (although the guy at the lfs said it was fine!). I have two occellaris, a mated pair, and was wanting to add another pair in a 29 gallon tank. How did you do it?

I am sure this cannot be done easily. I thought same and added 2 clowns to my 210 Gallon tank already having a pair of mated clowns, within 4 days, my new clowns were chased and killed by established pair. I will probably not try it again as I hate to see fishes die when I am experimenting :)

When I am a good fishkeeper, I feed them frozen every day. When I am negligent, they do not get any for months. The Eheim auto feeder is aways running with New Spectrum Life Pellets, though I do not always check to see if it needs refilling or new batteries.

Yes, the BTA's do sometimes bleach. I think it is from some extreme condition in the water. Probably temperature or Kalk reactor accident. It takes many months for them to recover from bleaching.

What do you think led to the downfall of your H. Mag?
Edit:
Just re-read your post on why you think it died. Sorry. I was interested in trying to add an H. Mag to my BTA tank. Would you do it again?
Also. Did you ever go to LED's?

Thanks for taking the time to read the thread.
I would definitely do the H. Mag again. It was doing really well and growing. If I see a healthy purple and green one, I would definitely try it again, though actually, I would like to try a green gigantea next as I am hoping the clowns might color up better.
I've not gone LED's yet. I am still looking.
