27 clowns in the same tank 27 months~Thread of the Month

So basically the key to housing so many clowns together (of the same kind) is so get them when they are still young?

Can't say for sure how young they need to be. I can only say raising this clutch of True Percs together from birth worked for me. I can say, however, this did not work with Clarkii.

Originally posted by Reefer08 what is your maintence on your tank? Im curious if you still need to watch alk/calcium with an anemone tank with lps??? [/B]

Not much maintenance. Wipe the front of the glass with magnet every day or two, the sides every few weeks and feed once or twice a day. Scoop a cup or two of salt in the top off container every couple of days, clean the skimmer once a month maybe....that's my water change---wet skim to house sewage, top off with salty water. My Co2 tank has been empty for over a year but calcium is 370ppm with fresh top off water going through a container with kalk before going to the 14 gallon salty top off water container.

mobert, do you think it would be possible to house a few BTA similar to your right side of your tank in a cube tank specificially for anemones? Something around the size of 75 or 100g? Your tank is an inspiration that has given me ideas for my next tank!

If you are asking if that size tank is OK, absolutely! You should always keep your water parameters as pristine as possible as with any reef. Keep in mind that anemones are a big bio-load.

have you ever lost any fish to that sea of anemones??

Not that I know of. The Mandarin pair do go in and out of the rocks with no problems. Mostly the same fish since the beginning.

E. Quadricolor isn't known for having a very strong sting...I've never actually heard of one catching a healthy fish.

so am i right in thinking that you can have a school so to speak of clown fish(percs) and they will get along. will 1 ever be the dominant 1 in the bunch if so how does that affect the others.. i have a 220 and would love to have 8 or so clownfish. would that be ok?

I'm totally inspired !!!! I only have a 29 with 2 picasso percs which has just been set up (from established rocks) but after seeing your tank I can't wait to get my next additions...a rose and a green BTA and keep my tank (apart from a few hitchikers) a nem/nem fish only tank. I've learned so much from reading your thread.

Awesome tank - well done.

I would not recommend more than one pair of clowns in a tank. These clowns were born and raised together. It is possible to have 8 in a tank but it is also possible that two would pair off and kill the rest of them. Having these clowns raised together and over 20 anemones help for with the harmony.

so in order to do something like this it is recommended to get them to breed then you can raise the babies together. for best chances of survival. i like your tank its amazing

You might try getting a clutch from a breeder. Also, You need to have enough equally good beds. Either lots of anemones or none. Also, I wouldn't try it with anything other than Percs or skunks.

In case anyone was worried:

These two do look like they have colored up more than the others. Some might say it is because they host in the H. Magnifica but it could also be because they are the most mature:

Here is a pair on the right in the BTA's:

I would suggest a BTA. Build a pillar as they tend to travel up and you don't want it wandering around your tank. Check out the stickies at the top of this Anemone forum.
