Hey Ed,

If you actually make the holes on the HGB oval rather than round it will really increase the flow. Thats what I did on mine at least and it worked great!

Tanks looking great by the way!

OVERFLOW PROBLEM

OVERFLOW PROBLEM

Thanks Snowboarda42 for the suggestion. I tried from different size holes to different shape holes but just not draining fast enough due to the powerful return pump..

Anyway, finally decided to used a different method... :)

Updates as below:

Got right to it to revised my HGB drain pipe yesterday and fix the extension onto my wavebox… after tweaking with the drain pipe and trying with different size holes, it just doesn’t drain fast enough due to my powerful return pump. I finally revised my HGB to a ‘Herbie method’ fine with the level of the water about 1” above the edge of the drainpipe and now it works fine…. Total silent.

However, still need to section off the drainpipe area to limited the water drained to the drainpipe area during power off, or it will drain too much water into my sump and overflow from my skimmer…. Alternatively is to raise my skimmer and redo the piping of my skimmer output into the sump but I would like to avoid this…!!

Revised Herbie Method drain pipe:

My wavebox ‘extension’ is also done…. Hopefully it works….will test it out once I have the 2 glass panel glue in my overflow….

With the add volume of water in the wavebox, it should create a bigger wave… maybe?? one tried this before?

Now I have to drain the tank in order to glue the 2-glass panel at my overflow.

ed is it how the original wbox extension work, stack on the top??
cause when u purchase original wbox extension they includ pump, not just the box

No Johan, I DYI glue 4 pieces of black plastic sheet on top of the wavebox to raise the edge of the wavebox higher so that it will not submerge in my overflow as I have to raise the water level in my overflow...

Original wavebox extension just look exactly the same but without the controller... :)

Cheers...

pretty sure jnarowe is playing with the same idea (wave box extension) and Jar*head can probably help you out as well.

Looks good to me though, should work well.

OVERFLOW SECTION

OVERFLOW SECTION

29 April, 2008 (Tuesday)

Just a quick update - tank maker came and glue two-piece of glass panel to compartments off the drainpipe area from the rest of the overflow. Now, when power down, only water from this compartment will drain, thus not affecting the rest of the overflow sections. :strooper:

Will need 2 days to dry and then I can wet test it again to see if it works…. :o

Sorry to hear about all the set backs, but the lights look great.

Thanks LiveRock27 - these things happen no matter how you planned..anyway, what's most important is that it can be fix.

Also thanks for the comments on the light. Glad you like it.... :)

Call up every LFS I can find in the yellow pages and most of them gave me that ‘funny’ look and think I’m nuts or something as they have never seen nor heard of black eggcrate….I think I must have search the whole China and finally found it in Shanghai… so I replace my entire white egg crate with black…

Black is great as it promotes less algae growth compare to white eggcrate!!

 look like my days are getting better....

MY TANK IS DRESS….…

MY TANK IS DRESS….…

27 April â€"œ 1 May, 2008 (Sunday - Thursday)

While I was working on my overflow issues and filling my tank, the dressmaker (carpenter) surprises me last Sunday morning and brought my cabinet doors …. was not expecting it so early as just the week before they told me it would take 15-20 days but who’s to complain, surely not me !! :mixed: Hmmm… this country is always full of surprises… sometimes good, sometimes not so good

However, even thou the doors are supposed to be ‘ready-made’ off-site, took them a good 5 days to completed installation… (mmm.. maybe ‘ready-made’ have a different meaning here â€"œ can’t imagine if they say it’s not ‘ready-made’)

Anyhow, good to see my tank finally fully dress…. :love2:

Originally I wanted to choose Black Walnut wood stain but finally decided on Mahogany wood color stain as I think the Black Coffee color stain will make my living hall look very dark as the whole tank almost block out my veranda of any natural lighting.

Comments guys?? Can I join the ‘Modern Build Thread’ now?? :smokin: :frog:

HAPPY LABOUR DAY EVERYONE !!!!

HAPPY LABOUR DAY EVERYONE !!!!

1 May, 2008 (Thursday)

Woke up x’tra early today and took advantage of the Labour Day to work on my tank :hmm4: mmm….somehow that didn’t come out right ??

“Labour Day = Hard Work??”

First thing was to check if my newly glue glass panel for my drainpipe is dry?

OverflowGlassSection.jpg

Once confirm the glue is dry, fill up the tank again for another water test to see if my theory works….as well as test the ‘extension’ wavebox.

All works well :) and now no more worries about sump overflowing during power-off.

PumpsinPosition.jpg

DYI extension Wavebox also seem to work but will adjust it slowly once all pumps are running to see the actual effect.

BUT what’s more important is NO ADD LEAKS FOUND (did the ‘tissue test’ along each pipes, joints, corners, every where I can think off), so I drain the tank and did a final detail cleaning of the tank and sump…..

Brought the buddies again to help clean the tank and now I think it’s ready for aquascaping

INDUSTRIAL SIZE RO FILTER …..!!

INDUSTRIAL SIZE RO FILTER …..!!

With my current home size RO unit, it will take forever to fill up my tank (don’t want to wait a week to get it filled) so I decided to rent an industrial size RO unit filter from a local water plant factory here…. this should fill up my tank in a couple of hours :crazy1:

Industrial RO Water Unit hook-up:
ROUnitDelivery.jpg

ROUnit-7Stage.jpg

This is a 7-stage Ro industrial unit. They so happen to have a brand new spare unit so all filters are brand new….they estimate a couple of hours to complete the filling of the tank. What’s great is it comes with a float switch so that I can place it in my sump tank and once the RO water reaches the level, it will automatically switch off the RO unit to prevent flooding…

More updates tomorrow with pictures as it’s been a long day for me….going to bed now…
