Ummm, normally "early days of reefkeeping" translates into "I don't know what the heck I was doing, and so my water parameters were all out of whack :D

Possible.... :D

Ed new stand looks so much better, placing stags toward the bottom is good idea. better watch out all the cheerleaders is coming to Chinatown :D

FINALY SOME PROGRESS ….…!!

FINALY SOME PROGRESS ….…!!

My new stand also delivered â€"œ you can see the difference between the old tank (which I rejected) and the new stand - not bad huh??

Took them longer than expected to adjust the stand to the same level. By the time it was completed, it was already evening and they have not even put the base wood for my stand yet…which mean they have to continue tomorrow morning and I have to reschedule my delivery of my sump to the afternoon. Sump tank been ready for a week now and sitting in his warehouse….

I also used compress rubber matting, which I got locally to be used as a based for the tank and sump area.

Today I achieve a lot actually â€"œ while they were dismantling the old stand, I took all the dry rocks for a wash with spray jet. You cannot imagine the amount of dirt that comes out of these rocks….. glad I did cause if not, these dirt will be in my tank forever…. :mixed: This to be followed by soaking them in RO water (daily change) until PO4 tested 0…..

Next I work on my wiring and control board….. what do you think? I cannot seem to get those DJ power control strips you guys used over there (eventhou I know it’s madeâ€"œin-China) so I purchased those switch individually and make my very own DJ power strip control board… :artist:

One of the biggest issues I have with my current tank is the location of my sockets…under the tank cabinet, which make it difficult for me to unplug each time I want to take something out for maintenance. …not to mention the humility under there… :eek2: Finally I have to make a separate control box outside the tank for all my sockets…which then become unsightly

In this new tank, I want to avoid similar mistake but at the same time want to max the space with proper planning to keep everything under the cabinet. With that I made a wooden divider with the sockets away from the sump tank and it’s also removable should I wish to service it in the future.

Also installed lighting underneath my stand. Got this light locally…for those who are interested, this is the light I use…. ;) 2 units are more than enough to light up my cabinet of 2.4m and best of all it’s waterproof

MY SUMP TANK IS HERE….…!!

MY SUMP TANK IS HERE….…!!

23 Mar, 2008 (Sunday)

It’s like a day before Christmas where you just keep waking up to look at the clock to see if it’s morning yet to open your presents…!! Well, finally the doorbell rang and hold and behold, my sump is here…!! :celeb1:

The design of the sump is supposed to trapped all the debris from returning to the main display and at the same time incorporate a frag/ quarantine tank for new fishes/ corals as it will be a while before I actually use it for fragging…hehehe

The quarantine section has a T-off pipe from the returns where I can simply turn it on whenever I need to used it so that the fishes/ corals will have exactly the same water as the main display â€"œ temperature and all….and at the bottom I have installed a ball valve to remove the water once I no longer uses it….

On the return pump section; I also installed a ball valve at the bottom for easy WC. This way, I can simply used that to drain the tank â€"œ that’s the theory anyway :reading: hope it works…!!

The sump will sit on top of a 3mm compress rubber mat, which will cover the whole based of the stand. This compress rubber will also hopefully reduce the vibration from my equipments and thus keeping everything silence….

I started placing all my toys in position just to give me an idea on space available as the balance space I intend to make a fresh water reservoir tank for ATO. Actually I’m debating with myself I should make a twin tank â€"œ 1 section holding SW and another section holding FW cause with Profilux, you can actually used the ATO to control your salinity…meaning if you do wet skimming and too much salinity is lost, then instead of the usual ATO which replaces FW, it will activated the pump to replace back the SW until the salinity is to your setting and when the salinity is normal, then the ATO will activated the FO pump to top off for the evaporation loss… maybe I’m blabbing here but I hope you all understand what I’m trying to achieve…. anyone done anything like this before using Profilux??

Help?? Please?? Ed

Very Neat so far.I think all your pre-planning will make for a beautiful display in the near future.

Thanks Badgus....appreciate your comments.... Cheers..Ed

Wow, Ed. You posted a lot of updates overnight! Stand looks WAY better. I even like it painted black. The sump looks huge! Can you post a close-up of the levelling feet on your stand? Do you have floor supports under your tank?

Yeah, sorted out some pictures and trying to catch up on lost time... :p Will try to take picture of the leveling feet on the stand tonight when I get home....

No floor support is necessary as apartments in China are build with solid concrete slaps between each floors and I was assure it's no problem... ;) Ed

As for the stand, yeah, cannot get powder coated here (don't know how to explain to them in Chinese) so got it painted and baked instead. This way, the paint work is very tough and not chip easily...Ed

PROBLEMS ENCOUNTER

PROBLEMS ENCOUNTER

I know my luck cannot hold out forever so I encounter more obstacles…my measurement for my ZEO Reactor is not correct… I used the measurement from their website but what I didn’t know is the measurement only gives the inside chamber diameter, which is 15cm and I thought by giving that area 24cm would be more that sufficient to accommodate the pipes and Reactor cover…:eek1:

Now the area dedicated for the reactor is slightly too small (short of 2cm) but the good thing is my reactor can be used in/out sump (from their website anyway) so I guess that what I might do… Anyone out there using this reactor externally? Can advise if there is any leak? Plan to use an Ehiem 1250 to feed it…

Next obstacle is a noticeable two small chip at the edge of my sump tank….not sure if this was during manufacturing or during delivery. I have called up the Tank Maker to see if he can change that chip panel.

SumpChip.jpg

Still lot’s to do as I need to build a raiser for my skimmer and my return pump this week….Also a couple of holes to drill to fit the returns from my skimmer and my Zeo reactor (if I decided to used my reactor out sump)

My main tank should arrived end next week (I hope) but cannot put any water in first for at least two week….but at least I can start working on my plumbing…

And I also realized I didn’t post any picture of my Chiller/ heater :D

this is good for a 3000L tank…

Look out for the next update!! Ed

nice progress man, your making moves on this project. The new stand looks great and I like your control board and sump. That separator for your electrical will be great, I just had a fitting burst in my tank and took out most of my power and took forever to replace all the fuses and electrical and get it all working again. BIG PITA.. all your planning will pay off nicely.

I think your going to be happy with you I series BTW. I had the H series when it first came out and it worked pretty well on my SPS dominated mixed reef tank.

Looking forward to the next step.

damn that was quick.

Also I'm not sure how much the salinity will drop using the cleaning head for the Deltec but probably not enough to waste the extra RO storage space on SW. I'm pretty sure in your size tank the water changes will make up for the small drop. I could be wrong but I don't think that small of a fluctuation would influence your tank.

Guess you can't plan everything, things look awesome, and isn't weird that you only notice the small chips AFTER you have already taken delivery and the guy leaves?
